It's tough to imagine a scenario where i wouldn't wear bear spirit, outside of the absurd artifact scenario.

It's interesting, but overall seems rather lackluster. Plus the lever thing seems to encourage dragging enemies to it in case of the traps or bombs. Also, does the cage trap end after some time, or are you just depending on the player to have some method of escape? I think if the stair/door warning ...

Re: OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

This is true. Stat form does have extra bonuses for UC though, doesn't it? In my very brief experience with stat form, it makes playing an OP not horrible. It does come with rHubris-- though, which is what killed me. I was tabbing down death yaks, with 3 unarmed skill! The frost giant wasn't amused ...

And better availability! Plus they crosstrain a somewhat useful skill, rather than an almost totally useless skill. I could a long blade user using a short blade to stab occasionally, I cannot imagine a great mace user occasionally using a war axe.

Re: Monster that inflicts -Tele on death

Well, the lightning explosion is defensive, but they actively shoot lighting at you too. And they're faster than most characters. So the 'puzzle' is usually, can you kill it from far enough away, quickly enough, that it doesn't blast you down with lightning. Once it closes the distance, if you don't...

Re: OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

Eh, OpFi is more survivable than it sounds, but still, OPs are so squishy. If I was going to go the melee start route, I'd probably just go BE. The reason I keep switching is playing D1 - Lair gets really boring with the same class. Especially book starts... zazazaza is an awful lot like zzzzzzzzz, ...

Re: UC Trolls: Lignification for Hydras?

Well, while berserked your HP pool will be larger, the poison will take from your inflated HP, then when berserk runs out, it'll deflate back down, so in the process, the damage you took while berserk will be deflated. I don't know how many HPs this will save you, but early in the game a few HPs may...

Re: OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

In this last game, they were not threatening, if I saw a pack I'd walk away, inevitably one would eventually end up next to me, I'd put a sticky flame on it, then continue walking away. Even an OP can take a hit or two from a blink frog, but of course you have to make sure you're not surrounded. On ...

Oh, shows how often I use potions of lig then... The only time i really use them is against early bee packs, and the last time I did that I couldn't cure the poison. The HP boost can also help you weather being fatally poisoned, which I discovered through desperate quaff ID when poisoned. I suppose ...

Re: UC Trolls: Lignification for Hydras?

You can't drink potions or teleport. That's a biggie. But, if you can lure the hydras somewhere safe, it's probably not a bad use of lig potions.

Still, don't forget the #1 method of killing hydras with a troll: Large rocks.

Re: OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

Well, the FE didn't have to be in melee range, the problem was that I didn't see the elephant until I already was in melee range. The mistake was bothering with sticky flame at all, rather than just blinking away and making it walk through a bunch of flames, like I dealt with all the hydras and regu...

YASD OpFE - Dire elephant + energy randomization

In a lair 8 vault, I stepped around a corner and was face to face with a dire elephant. I sticky flamed him and took a hit for about 40% of my hps. I walked away until the sticky flame wore off, then cast another. Whack, down to about 20% hps. So I took a step away. The dire elephant was clearly tir...

Re: OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

6-8 evo is plenty for a staff, and since it enhances your magic as well as does a lot of melee damage, it's a great weapon. I wouldn't bother learning Mephitic Cloud. Orc after Lair should be fine - I'm not sure why you need a book shop though. For unseen horrors you can use Conjure Flame to restri...

Being able to decide exactly where a fight will take place is a huge advantage. Having to fight every single enemy on the level in that place makes it less advantageous, but you could sometimes set it up so you had a staircase nearby. I think being able to self-mark might be too powerful, being able...

I don't think there's much in the way of long blades, but I'll do a ctrl+F and see what turns up. It might not be a horrible idea to pick up a long blade, and train that, even if I only use that training to boost my short blade skill in the short term, until a better long blade shows up. The staff o...

OpFE - Help me never have to play OP again!

OK, OpFE of Veh, in lair, doing pretty well(So far...) I would probably have preferred sif, but I found an early Veh altar, so I figured why not... I'd rather have the ability to generate more MP at will, but the longer range, wiz, and MP on kills isn't bad. The spells offered have been somewhat lac...

A very annoying thing about being american is that we spell some words just flat out wrong. For example: labeled, or labeler. You should update to 16.1, 16.0 has a bug where player melee attacks do double damage. I won my only felid in 16.0, and I am wondering if I have to do it again in 16.1, otherwise my offline greatplayer title will be even more meaningless.

There used to be a class called priest. Yeah... shock serpent are a cruel trick. They're faster than you, shoot lightning, and then if you hit them, they hit you with more lightning! Sometimes snake has way too many of these things, and some flimsy characters have a really tough time with them.

Chaos is a great brand for a stabber, being able to paralyze an OOF or ALich is great, who cares if they turn invisible, and if they even can go berserk, it'd be a good thing. I don't see the draw for anyone else though.
