Um, unarmed gets much worse penalties than any other attack from body armour. It increases the delay. Anyway your "best bet" on these things is to look at the source.

I would have polymorphed myself again. The other forms are pretty awful too but at least they can move. rMut (even in mutation form) does nothing against polymorph; another reason MR is by far the most important resistance in the game.

Re: I think Hall of Blades should be reworked (or removed?).

I wasn't trolling. I thought it was very commonly thought that Blade was a terrible branch. The monsters are either completely trivial (you have invisibility or some good damage spell/launcher) or they repeatedly banish you (you try to kill them with melee). Looking at recent games from greatplayers, the only branches entered less often than Blade are Hell, Tomb, Dis, Tar, Coc, Geh, and Forest; except for Forest these are all branches that you should obviously never enter if you are trying to win, and the only reason Forest is there is that the others have existed dozens of times longer. Every portal vault gets entered more often than Blade!
I assure you my post was completely serious. I have never enjoyed Blade, with any character, nor can I come up with circumstances where I would enjoy it in its current state, and moving it to a random dungeon level would certainly not change that.

I wouldn't want the monster to be mostly immune to melee, I just want getting into melee to be very tricky to the point where just charging forward is a bad idea.
Good news, just charging forward is already a bad idea against 95% of monsters in the game, ranged or not

Re: Battlesphere is overpowered

No, I think battlesphere is a dumb spell. I just don't really think it's overpowered. It's a noticeable damage boost but it's not that much compared to the amount of damage conjurations do in the first place, unless you are using magic dart all game because you think it's cool to kill orc warriors by "just" casting magic dart. The original design for the spell actually was to copy spells cast by the player, but it would have resulted in a low-level spell that got more powerful the further in the game you are, which would have been really bad. It also would have been overpowered for players smart enough to cast poison arrow instead of magic dart.

Also I thought your username was some sort of play on the word "scrotum"? Is this incorrect?

This is some of the worst armour I have ever seen anyone wear. Even a plain +2 robe would be better, though you should raise your strength by one or two points (longbow damage has a sharp cutoff at 14 str with +9 enchantment). I recommend mottled dragon armour if you have a few enchant armour scrolls. Speaking of which,
Velikolepni wrote:t - 2 scrolls of enchant armour
don't carry these around, something will just burn them. Leave them in your stash until you use them.
A +9 longbow of holy wrath would do by far the most damage against things vulnerable to it. Against things not vulnerable to it, piercer is the best longbow you have, and remember that vorpal stacks with flame/frost arrows.

Why shouldn't you be able to carry 6 scrolls of blinking instead of 2? Who the hell uses 6 scrolls of blinking in one fight? One is enough to save you, then you can run to your stash to pick up a replacement scroll. Carrying more than 3 of one consumable doesn't make you any safer, it's just more convenient, and there's no point in deliberately inconveniencing players.

if these monsters ever cut off your escape routes then you are very bad at crawl. since they can't hurt you, you can put them anywhere on the level that you want. if you are really in the habit of putting them in your escape routes then im surprised youre still alive. in real life do you set bear traps in your own bathroom? because thats basically exactly what you did if you ever get your escape cut off by a goliath beetle in crawl.

No. If you can't kill hydrae just avoid them, they are the same speed as you so they can't catch you. You can also easily kill them by throwing javelins or large rocks if you find those, and if you really need one to die you can use brothers in arms on it but it's kind of a waste of piety otherwise.

Re: The Silent Assasin: a Conduct on Playing a VpEn of Ashen

ontoclasm is probably right about Corona but is completely wrong about Sure Blade. Sure Blade's power is based on the remaining duration:
  Code:
        if (weapon && wpn_skill == SK_SHORT_BLADES && you.duration[DUR_SURE_BLADE])
        {
            int turn_duration = you.duration[DUR_SURE_BLADE] / BASELINE_DELAY;
            mhit += 5 +
                (random ? random2limit(turn_duration, 10) :
                 turn_duration / 2);
        }
Recasting it also adds to the duration, it doesn't "reset" it. You generally want to cast sure blade several times if you have the turns to spare.
