Re: Fire School Buff: Dry

How about a fire spell: Dry (lvl 4 fire). Dries up water, converting deep water to shallow water and shallow water to dry land. If there is adjacent deep water the spell may not work (due to being refilled by adjacent spaces).

Like sunshine, but weaker (smaller area) and chance to fail.

Re: CIP: Polarms or Maces?

In the course of many, many deaths I have come to the conclusion that any character that can wear a shield, should wear a shield (esp with that nice aptitude). If I was in your shoes, I'd leave the death yaks alone and clear out Orc 2-3. Besides the large piety boost (and gifts) I'd be unsurprised i...

Re: New crusader

It would help if the brand spells would overwrite the current brand for the duration of the spell. That would enable you to (e.g.) slap a flaming brand on your pain Axe for fighting the hydra. It would also keep brands useful for the entire game since you can adjust to the monster you are fighting a...

Re: Travler's Fire

I think this would be a useful and interesting spell for a tabletop RPG campaign that I play with friends, but in Crawl I'm a horrible Xom-like entity forcing my little slave into a dank hole in the ground to desperately fight monsters for survival and probably die amusingly. The comfort of my litt...

Re: Necromutation ideas

2.The base regeneration rate is your maximum hitpoints / 3. If this number is over 20, then divide the result by two and add ten. For example, 100 max health results in a regen rate of 26. RR accumulates every turn and for every 100 RR you gain, you regenerate 1 hp. For 1 hp per turn, 540 health is ...

Just a thought, but I assume that mana regeneration works like hp regeneration in that you get X "points" per time unit, and when that value reaches 100 you get another hp. This means that if you divide the spell cost by duration can get an effective "point" value per unit of tim...

Re: When is it ever useful to NOT use shields

I think that the problem is that I really need to victory dance cowardice (it is the opposite school from bravery). Once I have that down I might be able to skip on the shield.

When is it ever useful to NOT use shields

I looked for advice on this already posted, but none of the older threads seemed to address this question exactly. When you are playing a character how do you manage to survive without a shield? I have been playing for a bit and I rather want to try out a MdHu or DgTm, but I don’t know how I can sur...

Re: I think we learned an important lesson today.

A pack of death yaks in the lair can easily be cleared by using dig on a nearby wall, standing in the back of the tunnel, filling it with conjure fire, and daring them to attack you. The things are fearless. They charge down the tunnel (getting crispy), perhaps get an attack or two on you, and then ...

Re: (Very) Basic Naga Guide

I would also like to speak to how awesome Conjure Flame is for Naga as well. If you use it in a 1-wide corridor you will either get: a. A firey moat that allows you to shoot your foe in safety, or b. crispy monster flame'. The latter option is awesome to use versus early slimes, and I don't think I ...

Suggestions for Hex Spells

I’ve been lurking on these forums for a while now and after YASD (a HEWz who tried to run from a pack of centaurs in the open with both cTele and Teleport memorized). I decided to submit these ideas to the wisdom of the forum. Problem : Hex school is undesirable since by midgame you cannot rely on t...
