Re: Long Blades Proposal

IMO the best way to distinguish long blades from M&F (the other weapon type that does not have a gimmick) would be to make M&F do higher damage, but special-case them to have slower minimum delay, similar to what is done with crossbows; this would naturally make M&F better against high AC.

This would encourage startscumming for anyone who isn't aiming for maximum win % - eg, start as a MfSk, you really want a polearm but due to this proposal you have to start with a rapier. If you don't find a spear on D:1, quit the game and try again until you do.

Re: buff or rework monster draconian

I don't think draconians are weak, but Zot 1-4 does generally seem a bit anticlimactic compared to V5 and lower Depths, unless you meet early OOFs, which is always a possibility. Draconian packs can suddenly get much more dangerous if a moth of wrath starts berserking them or a shifter blinks its al...

I'd say that it partly depends on species - Freeze is quite risky for a fragile species like DE because you have to stand next to the monster and let it hit you if you don't kill it with one cast, but is less risky for something tougher like Dr, similarly the self-damage from pain can be dangerous i...

A lot of early game frustration can happen because of those times when you try to run away but are unable to do so, eg because the enemy confuses/paralyses you, or it's faster than you, or it's a centaur, or it's the first monster you meet on D1 and there's nowhere to run to.

Re: Enchanter and Conjurer are way too luck dependent. And m

Don't forget, magic dart is affected by AC so if an early monster is wearing chainmail or a weapon of protection, it's very hard to do any damage to it. In this case it's almost certainly a better idea to leave the level and come back and kill it later (or never.) (An early monster with good armour ...
