I thought I didn't like IE, mostly because I don't like summons. I also like big AOE spells and you only access them late with IE and none is guaranteed in starting book. I finally decided to stick to elemental staffs (mostly used Air and Eeath ones). I equipped the CPA just for the fun. I'm surprised that no one mentioned that Dungeon used to have 27 levels ! Things are now better with Depths:1-5 replacing Dungeon:16-27

I also like a lot Lair and S branches, Orc, Elf and Vaults.

And my favourite places are optionnal vaults : Sewer, Volcano, Ice Cave, Lab, ...

I'd go straight UC (focused) and Stealth till Lair (maybe add a little Fighting ?)

You'll stab most monsters and you berserk will let you kill the other part. Then I'd work a little on Dodging + Evocations (hopefully Orc shops will give you nice misc items)

Love that tribute ! I'll miss blowguns a lot, most of my recent characters trained 20+ throwing and got +9 blowgun just to abuse the Pan Lords stabs :twisted:

I'd just add to this very complete answer something about spells slots : you gain 1 slot per level (xp) and 2 per spellcasting (skill) level.

I like axes for Qazlal formicids, but with your digging ability, you're often able to fight in kill holes. That's why I favor polearms or M&F more.
You can also go with staves and use massive extra xp for defenses and ranged (throwing or xbows imho)

It seems that you made it out with your SpBe, but for other ones that might try this, I suggest an abusive use of throwing and blowgun.
Trog should gift nice needles (confuse and para). It allows you to destroy extended and laugh at every unique so easily...

Indeed evokable teleport is an old stuff... Crawl also had a cTele spell, both of them combined was fun :) That is a nice TRJ tech. Regular orc priests are trivial at this point unless there are 3+ in LOS at once. (Use fog or teleport or both.)
