A quick data point: Just now on WebTiles, Atomikkrab found 4 -- 1, 2, 3, 4 count them! -- lamps of fire on one level of cocytus along with a fan of gales and a stone of tremors. People get huge numbers of these things because way too many of them are generated. I urge the devs to at least try revert...

So you propose that changing the rarity of the items does not actually affect the number that a player can get? Strictly speaking, what you say is true. In principle a player can collect items in pandemonium, the abyss, bazaars, and ziggurats forever and thereby attain as many elemental evokers as h...

Okay, so there's a question of how powerful they are when used in volume, but there are reasonable ways to address this without taking such a strange measure as linking all instances of this object to the actions of the player. For example, if there's a problem that they become spammable, then the n...

Re: Multiple evocable suggestion

The commit in question seems pretty baffling to me. If I understand the prior situation, the number of lamps/fans/whatever you carried determined how large a burst of usage you could sustain. This change appears to make the marginal value of an additional lamp/fan/whatever zero (or close to it). Why...

Re: Bug? Feature? No warning from dith on LB causing fire

If it's a question of flavor and the issue is light vs. dark, then obviously Dithmenos worshippers shouldn't be allowed to use lightning. Perhaps not dazzling spray either. Alternatively, Dithmenos could have an ability that extinguishes fire, so that if you indirectly cause a fire you can put it ou...

Try speccing some zigs to get a feel for them. It seems the key is to know when to quit on zigs and with melee characters that seems to be before the end usually... Characters you see doing well in zigs and actually clearing them tend to use a lot of level 9 spells...

Re: CIP- MiFi of TSO- 12 runes and counting.. seeking advice

My experience with a MiFi of Qazlal running axes w/ +9 executioner's axe (vamp) is that Zot was a cakewalk, so I wouldn't be too apprehensive about winning after you've collected however many runes you want. And that was just a really basic 3 rune build, no spells, just fighting/axes/armor/dodging a...

I'm surprised people are so keen on lair. I think it's a bit of a boring grind where hydras are the only real threat. Snake and shoals are interesting branches, swamp and spider less so. It just seems that swamp and spider have considerably less interesting/intelligent monsters (although orb spiders...

I don't really understand how spellcasting works with heavy armor, so I stay away from it. That's what I'd been trying with HO. I suppose someone should run simulations and put a digest of this kind of information out there. Don't ranged attackers generally look for line of sight by sidestepping, e.g. around corners? I agree if you have a super dense arrangement, monsters will approach to melee range, but if it's not very dense, there will be lines of sight available. I don't think it's straightforwardly better than fog...

Hm, yeah, there's some overlap. This doesn't block of sight, so summons continue to attack. I think the fact that it doesn't spawn around the player and that the obstructions can be destroyed by monsters changes how it works tactically though. edit: Example: You may want to cross an open area with s...

The idea is a defensive spell that spawns breakable glass walls that block spell and missile targeting. The walls are broken by walking onto them and doing so takes no additional time.
