Then trivially modify the flavor of the spell so that it concentrates already-existing stale dungeon air instead of creating it out of nothing. Flavor should not override gameplay concerns.

This will get us into bigger trouble sooner or later.

Heroism + pure fighter = not so good.

Heroism + hybrid fighter-mage = very nice (because it allows you to safely invest your EXP on magic skills).

You died because of zero INT. It's called stat death. When any of your attributes (STR, INT, DEX) gets decreased to zero or less, you will die just like when your HP hits zero.

Get rid of Fireball and learn Iron Shot, because you need a powerful spell which can hurt anything. (Especially if you want to clear Orc Mines, since you might encounter Orc High Priests which are very resistant to fire.)
