It's the presence of Swiftness. If you just want to hurl destruction at monsters, the Cj book is great.

Standing in water causes you to fumble attacks if you're not flying/levitating, comfortable in water or very big. Ghosts levitate so water shouldn't affect them.

I'm not sure how exactly wanderer stat generation works. I assume since the background is randomized that it gets a pool of stat points to assign randomly. Say it has 5 points left to assign... the code will pick a stat at random, and then check whether that stat is over 17. If the stat is under 17,...

A recent change moved Vaults back into the Dungeon and put a rune lock on it, so hopefully in the future you'll have more to do before hitting Depths.

It seems simpler to have an evocable that either provides a damage shaving effect or blocks a flat amount of damage before expiring, then requires xp to recharge like the new elemental items.

I think if it's an edged weapon and not a dagger or quick blade, it removes heads.

Why is the assumption that the spells you cited work the way you guessed they did any more valid than the assumption that they don't? Might stacks just fine with heroism, as they do completely different things.

It's Haste and Finesse that don't "stack" insofar as you'll get the benefits of Finesse when attacking, and the benefits of Haste when doing everything else.

While you still have stat points remaining to assign:
Pick a stat at random.
If that stat is greater than 17, there's a 50% chance to choose again, otherwise:
Increase the randomly chosen stat by one.
Decrease the stat points remaining by one.

There are protections against all of those things except hellfire and smiting, though, in the form of resistances and AC.
