While you're waiting for a reply (I'm a noob myself) maybe roll up a few Abyssal Knights to get a feel for the Abyss. Probably won't be able to do much damage, but will help you get an idea of what you're facing.

Little green slimy things merged into a really big slimy thing right after zerk wore off killing an 8-headed Hydra and a Hill Giant. I think plant jinxed me...

It was a yasd on my part though. I've fought the slimies before and should have run away.

My dungeon progression depends a bit on what I've found. Lair > Orc, then If I have Rpois I'll do snake or swamp, Lev I'll do shoals, but I've found if I don't have Sinv I usually regret trying to go for vaults. Big open areas will make you unseen horror lunch. What do you do when you clear Lair>Or...

Encountered my first mottled dragon. He hit me with sticky flame. I ran upstairs and saw that my scrolls were burning, so I dropped them all and moved off the tile so I wouldn't burn the rest. Hit 5 a few times while watching the HP... look down and see a Jelly munching my scrolls. :lol:

I'd think most would fight unarmed since they have tentacles. I thought unarmed players usually wear light armor? I could be mistaken but even if they're given the choice I don't think many at all would chose heavy armor. Anyway I'd like to see them get a cloak. Cloaks get tangled in the tenticles?...

I decided to try them out in the order posted. So far I'm pretty happy with the Minotaur Berserker. Running around in Lair, using an axe and javelins with a shield and some splint mail.

I can't get past D12-14, Lair, Mines. My most successful characters have been TrMo with Throwing (Search for Returning brand then enchant it up) and M&F Secondary (Because Hydra owned my first few TrMo). New player and love the idea of an Octopus character, or in this case.... Octopode! Only gripe I really have is that they can't wear cloaks. Where exactly can I find this config file? I think I found it once, but never saw any of the options that people were referring to... and didn't wanna mess up my game. Of course. It would have been easy to fix and if all else fails stash/pull/make, doesn't really take that long.
