My point is devs should not be afraid to change defaults or even remove deprecated options.

It is intentional choice between extra attack (MP on block) and extra defence (using regular shield instead of buckler). Warlock's mirror provides similar choice trading physical defence for magical one. It is not an item which is used by every character no matter what.

I am not sure malmutate makes oof less dangerous. Devs can change monster speed easily and they accounted for malmutate when choosing speed for oof. Malmutate makes "take it slowly and carefully" strategy nonviable vs oof.

I'd stop training Axes for now, your defenses are quite low for this stage. Basically I would drop that hat and started training dodging. MiBe can have high EV even in GDS.

For the record I had Shoals, Oka, could use all throwables and still ran out of non-stones in Zot 5. It is working as intended I guess, otherwise throwing would be even more OP.

BiA are not free, it is easy to run out of BiA if you use it for every hydra. Rage + weak weapon is a gamble, by berserking you lose ability to use scrolls/potions.

When species can throw large rocks, it is much easier for ammo conservation because it takes less attacks to kill the most dangerous monsters while vs not so dangerous stones are ok.

Decks are too slow at this stage, I didn't have any problems with 3-4 monsters no matter the type but they kept coming in much higher numbers. Eventually I was tired of teleportation.

IMB is main spell in Lair so you should work on it. I believe it is optimal to play as glass cannon until that spell is online. Also let's not forget about UC, weapon aptitudes and god gifts. Mi can use +9 flail of electro on D:9 and then easily switch to +11 broadaxe of speed which Trog/Okawaru gifts on L:3 while as Tr new players will be disappointed every time they receive a weapon gift or find a good weapon on the floor....

lure and 1v1 every monster. Impossible, the monsters come in packs and are fast or have blink close. I tried :( And while I am killing them to survive other monsters with normal speed get adjacent too. My stealth barely did anything at this point, too many monsters on the level and they are packed....

I am not sure what you mean. When I press ! I still need to press a letter of a book to see its spells and then Esc to return to previous screen, then press another letter and Esc again and so on. It's written in OP.
