You absolutely want to focus your spell skills more closely than that. You should look at your spell list, pick the spells you want to use that are not yet at <4% or so failure rate, and train the skills needed to get them to 1-3% failure. For you that's going to be mainly spellcasting, conjurations...

DDBe is probably the hardest I've won, most of my wins are easy combos. Managing piety was an absolute nightmare. I agree. Early on it's not a big deal, but in places with low piety/high damage taken like Vaults:8 and Zot, I found myself constantly at *** or lower, not enough piety to use BiA. Huh?...

They have an incredible aptitude for ranged weapons, bows/throwing in particular, so a hunter is a great choice. Aye I decided to give the direct start as a transmuter a shot, and your offense is really, really solid early on. Not much will survive more than 2-3 attacks. Alright, joking aside - they're going to be weak early on but once you get a good transmutation going, they can use things like stone form/stoneskin for incredible AC (for a caster! ;) ) while having *zero* armor melded to them. Early on spider form gives you some speed, and if you want to go melee ...
