Vehumet's pretty good, given the reduced miscast odds. Still, with the trog start and 3 runes, there may not be enough exp in a 3 rune game to counter the very low starting int without ash's boost. It's like an escape hatch that doesn't bring adjacent monsters when you use it. I'd certainly make sure that dangerous battles were fought on top of one. I could either shaft myself or the monster.
