I imagine the reason is similar to why there aren't similar options for shadow dragons, iron dragons, or quicksilver dragons. Having backgrounds of varying difficulty is a design choice, we're fine with that. However, fighter being one of them is not good in my opinion. This is the default background, and the one most beginners will try first. Fighter should be a simple AND strong background, especially in the early game....

Perhaps the overpoweredness of Meph/Evap isn't the spells themselves, but rather the Confusion effect. Perhaps Confusion should more like Poison for players and monsters, so yellow levels give occasional mis-movements, but dark red levels result in self-damage, friendly-fire, drowning, etc.

Do keep in mind, though, that that is a standard +6 GDA with rElec and SInv, and not necessarily worth grinding out 15,000 gp for.

Considering that octopuses don't do their breathing with their beak, but by generally expanding and contracting their open mantle. They also have a roll of mantle they can use as a jet or blowhole, so it seems to me that they have a reasonable excuse to use blow guns.

DrAE is my current fav. Early Swift + Flight (via Levitation). They don't have negative air apts, and Steam and Storm have positive apts. Do not join up with Okawaru until ALL your Demonspawn mutations are known. Just because you figure it will be unlikely that you will Demonic Guardian does NOT mean the RNG will consider it unlikely.

Talons are on your feet though. Shouldn't be a problem, unless you are an octopode, and then things just get complicated.
