Re: Make Yara's a Monster Spell; End Charms Reform

Actually, if you look at existing spells, you'll find about half of them all do roughly the same thing, i.e. direct damage. For the rest, quite a lot have duration effects either on the player, monsters, the environment, or allies created by the spell. I claim in all of these cases, which account f...

Re: Make Yara's a Monster Spell; End Charms Reform

Crawl's magic system was built for simplicity and nothing else. To say that it is built for "tactical effects like fireball" when all kinds of other effects exist is a stretch. With a design philosophy like crawl's, you can have duration effects and you can have a one-size-fits-all castin...

Re: Rewrite Crawl (split from Remove hunger)

Regarding large lategame numbers, I imagine it being pretty frustrating to die at 3/4 HP because an ancient lich max'ed on you with an LCS. This is rare, but in order to see the kind of hits that will kill a reasonable player character (like 70s) happen somewhat often through AC, you need to have a...

All books are now automatically identified when you step upon it, so there is no good reason to keep them with having random tiles varying with each game. So, let's apply adequate, fixed tiles to each non-randart books and make them automatically pre-identified. Current tileset for books is just ra...

baidu3 is correct. as long as you aren't aiming *at* a bush, you can fire through it. this works for projectiles and many spells (notably, not fireball).

in practice, it basically only comes up in weird centaur vaults.
