Think twice before taking Ru on a blaster, because her panic buttons have a high MP cost and chances are by the time you've figured out that you need her help you've used up most of your MP.

I used immolation on a orc warlord band in Orc:1 just yesterday! I even got hit by a couple explosions to no great harm. I'll be using that scroll more often now.

Grr, this particular character died in the Abyss after being banished by a dancing weapon at XL:17. I feel good, though, that I survived through 9 ?TP and 4 ?Blink and didn't die until I had no escape consumables left. I'd still rather win of course.

I submitted a bug report, but wouldn't be surprised if this is intended behavior. In any case, I have used tranference to leverage this, but that seems to be something to do after the ally has been stupid instead of an intentional tactic.

From what I've gathered, you ought to use a combination of telling them to "wait here" and recall until you have a few buddies that are knights or warlords, and then try to keep only a few such for the rest of the game.

You don't really need to get the swamp rune for a 3-rune game. You could get the silver, slimy and serpentine runes and get into Zot that way.

Another reason Gn would be a good beginner race: it is very powerful early, meaning that new players get to see more of the game before their inexperience catches up to them.
