The only situations that really matter in dcss are the ones where you are about to die. ive found spellcasters to have more options in those situations. I also find killing things from range a lot safer in this game. Your mileage may vary tho.

High winrate is more indicative of personality/priorities than experience imo. Winning dcss reliably is boring to a large percentage of the gaming population, because the safest strategies tend to be the most tedious and the game is already too long as is. DeFE imo. Flame tongue gets you through the early levels, sticky flame + kite beats almost anything all the way through lair, and fireball has irresistible dmg, aoe and decent dps. Fedhas + Gozag. With Gozag you can use call merchant -> food shoppe to get potentially unlimited fruits, thus circumventing a crucial limitation on Fedhas abilities.

FR: Increase the number of traps by 10000% (maybe less, I dunno), so that literally only one narrow path is free on every level. Rename "dungeon" to "labyrinth". Also rename the minotaur's labyrinth to "small labyrinth within the large labyrinth", but this is obvious. ...

I don't like the idea of making charms permanent, personally. Feels like bad design, cramming a strategic advantage (such as that afforded by gear) into the spell system, which is specifically designed for tactical usage.

No food alone makes it much, much better.

im of the opinion Dg could use an "interestingness buff" moreso than an actual stats buff. Playing without a god removes an entire dimension from the game.

In late game, "kill stuff from a safe distance" starts to become noticably better than "disable some enemies on screen then move in to kill the non immune ones at close range while avoiding all the others or trying to abuse discord and hope it doesn't backfire and kill me"

Seeing red/yellow/white/black names is one of the best features for newbs. It's a, "if you died to this, don't say you weren't warned" type deal.

Of course, veteran players already know which monsters are dangerous and when. So maybe the names panel should be toggleable.

One of my best crawl memories is trying to escape sewer, a playerghost tengu EE peppering me with stone arrows as I slogged through shallow water.

Maybe its just me but i dont find conjurations based caster all that tedious. Hotkey a direct damage spell to tilde, cast battlesphere and spam until half mana, run to stair, repeat. Hellmonk, any way you could change dragons to drop hides on death instead of requiring butchering? Its easy to forget skinning for hides now that you never have to butcher for meat

Really enjoying the fork as usual, btw.
