Re: YASD-Invisible Orc Wizards & Priests

I started playing Crawl a week ago and my around 80% of characters die to invisible orc wizards and priests, I can easily kill early game threats if I'm not stupid but whenever I run into orc packs my game is pretty much over. This particular character is my 5th best (with my best being a lvl 9 tro...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

Well if you are trying your hand at manual training, I would recommend training 1-2 skills at a time, skills that you feel your character is lacking right now . Also probably don't train much Stealth (if any) on Wz. What I am trying to do is gain the most MP and lowest failure and hunger ratings. I...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

The mutation you lost from the last try was a mutation you gained from mutagenic meat in the first place. You also gained one of the worst single mutations (blurry vision). Even if eating mutagenic meat had worked out in your favour, it's a matter of probability; sometimes it will help, in most cas...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

Do you train your skills manually or automatically? Because with the amount of skills you are training, automatic is probably the better choice. I bet it's autotraining. It is quite acceptable for berserkers, but for most casters it's terrible, overtraining spellcasting and undertraining everything...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

From the dump it looks like it was not the arch-demonic rng, it was you: 18877 | Orc:4 | Gained mutation: Armour fits poorly on your strangely shaped body. [mutagenic glow] 24756 | D:11 | Gained mutation: You are partially covered in iridescent scales (AC +4). [mutagenic meat] 24856 | D:11 | Gained...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

Thanks, but later on never seems to come. This iteration (82, I think) was abysmal. Only four lousy books, hardly any potions or scrolls, an impossible Lair, ridiculously difficult Orcs, and some horrible mutations that made the game a big fat dead end. It really wasn't the Elf that killed him, but ...

Re: on D10, D11, Lair or orcish mines

And don't be afraid to abandon mines if you get a mess you can't handle yet. Yup, mines can have very unlucky spawns. Ettins, ogre mages and swarms of orc priests are all possible. I did mines with my newest last night, and both 3 and 4 had huge packs including mulitple Warriors, numerous Sorcerers...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 82 (Was 81)

The pathway leading to Crazy Yiuf was littered with hammers, no space unused. The chamber holding him was also full of hammers, two magic and three white. One was "Lorem Ipsum" and the other was "The Hammer of Termination." Crazy, indeed. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.14.1-2...

Re: Minor Auto-targeting Fix Request: Conjure Flame

Not only do they have a chance of stepping into the flame, but casting Mephitic Cloud can also confuse them and increase that chance. You can't place a flame on a cloud, but you can cast the cloud over flame. Also, in regards to the OP, I have changed my mind and now agree that targeting a creature ...

Re: Minor Auto-targeting Fix Request: Conjure Flame

Well, then it should only target the self initially, then. But I am only suggesting that the initial auto-target be placed adjacent to the character upon a square that is not a creature, wall or cloud. I am not suggesting any attempt at elegant AI. It just makes no sense to me that it automatically ...

Re: CiP: DEWz Attempt number 81

All right, not dead yet. I cleared Lair:1 to find a Book of Frost, giving some much-needed relief from Magic Dart. Throw Icicle and a team of Ice Beasts then brought down the Red Devil on 10 without incident. Now XL 12, and proceeding. Thank you for the advice (which appeared as I was writing this u...

Minor Auto-targeting Fix Request: Conjure Flame

The Conjure Flame spell auto-targets on creatures, when it cannot be placed on a creature, and the game will be the first to tell you if you try it. Instead of auto-targeting creatures, can Conure Flame be made to target what is not a creature, wall, or cloud? Apportation auto-targets items, so let ...

This is way over my head.

What is an Igni? Also, you're not the first I've seen with Summon Butterflies. What's the deal with Summon Butterflies? You use this?

This guy looks totally badass. Grats.

Amazing loot.

Re: First Win Ever after 1500+ tries.

You can remove player ghosts when playing locally and it is not considered cheating. Well exactly, this is why I didn't play on Webtiles. Also, you can't generate player ghosts if you play exclusively undead, which I was. I hate the ghosts, too. They're often way overpowered for the level they gene...

Okay, thanks. I found this: http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/howto which led me to this: http://crawl.akrasiac.org/scoring/best-players-total-score.html where I see my paltry 73 losses and no wins. I'm right behind you, man. I've not gotten one higher than 16, and I'm tenaciously sticking with DEWz until I win with it. So many of the deaths are so ridiculous, too. A swarm of rats or a pack of jackals outside the first doorway on level 1. Erolcha banishing a level 9 to the Abyss as her first at...
