Re: CIP: VpAM of Kiku, buy Animate Skeleton?

No, I mean it seems that bottle blood and drain corpse actually destroy corpses including skeletons. My entire dungeon has no remaining corpses or skeletons on the floor. I should have payed attention and left some over I guess. Oh well, one learns.

Re: CIP: VpAM of Kiku, buy Animate Skeleton?

I was surprised when I searched for skeletons to animate. I drew a blank. Do Bottle Blood or Drain Corpse destroy skeletons? It seems odd and it's also not mentioned in the ability description.

You've convinced me to buy the book. Let's see how this goes. Do you typicall drag your skeleton crew around with you, or park them somewhere?

YASD: VpAM of Kiku, Stabbomancer.

Bit of a funny character. Vampires have very high Hexes aptitude, so I figured AM might work. And actually Corona + Javelins kill stuff fairly reliably. Found an early Ring of Invisibility, so trained Evo to 50% fail, then started on stealth and short blades. Got a +2 dagger (venom). So far so good....

YAVP: VSAE of Oka, 3 Runes

Vine Stalkers are great fun. No device heal is an interesting dynamic in the early game, although it seems to lose its relevance later. Air Elementalist feels like a solid book start. The weakest spell is Flight I guess, but even that can come in handy in Shoals or wherever. Setting up opportunities...

Re: YAVP: HEWr of Dith, 4 Runes

Thanks for the advice. I went with the demon blade of draining and a long sword of holy wrath for backup. Eventually I managed to aquire a bastard sword, then everything was easy. I stuck with shield, rather than 2-hand. My defences were 'pretty solid' in the end, with buffs and blow gun nearly 100 ...

Re: Species: Angel (holy, perma-penance, playable)

I first tested with a fixed random evil god and a limited amount of penance. It was relatively straightforward to get through 50 Makhleb penance even starting right at the beginning of the game. Then I moved on to random evil gods basically taking turns, with something like 5-15 penance at a time, b...

Re: Species: Angel (perma-penance, playable)

Thanks for the comments. I've given the whole idea some thought. The original proposal is obviously rejected. (Too strong against normal monsters, but still in danger from Wrath.) A lot of the species setup were too closely inspired by the angel monster. If it could be balanced somehow, would a spec...

YAVP: HEWr of Dith, 4 Runes

I rolled a random character and ended up with a HEWr. Found an early altar of Dith and decided to go 'stealthy'. Early on the Wr start felt a bit weak, but Shroud and TeleOther are pretty strong. Cleared L7, Orc and D14 and Snake2. I'm doing alright in Snake, but feeling a bit fragile, so will proba...

Species: Angel (holy, perma-penance, playable)

Original suggestion below. Hi, Here is a proposal for a new species currently called Angel. The basic idea is a holy being that has a stronger involvement with religion (well, penance) than other species. Playable build can hopefully be found here: https://gitorious.org/crawl/4hooves2appenda...

Having the item slot that's most annoying to change (due to the fact that you have to choose which to take off) as the tactical one seems like a bad idea to me. I'm not so sure how to fix that though. The main ideas I've had are - Move the broadly tactical effects (like resistances) to the amulet s...

Re: How do you play a Necromancer start?

You don't really need that much Int to cast most Necro spells except maybe for Necronomicon ones (but if you go Kiku you probably want pain weapon). So you can split it between Int and Dex, doesn't matter that much. So you don't recommend Str then? My character started with 8, which won't let me we...

Re: Min level to fight in the abyss

XL18+ has a decent chance of killing stuff in the Abyss I'd say, or at least getting out alive. Not all enemies are very dangerous. Minor Abominations are mostly harmless for example. At XL12, I would definitely avoid fighting as much as possible. Going diagonal until you find a portal is your best ...

How do you play a Necromancer start?

As the topic name suggests. When starting out as a Necromancer what do you guys do? I memorised Animate Skeleton. Is it useful? Mostly I kill stuff with Pain, which is pretty powerful. I tend to have three or so skeletons with me, but in reality they don't do very much. Easy opponents die to Pain, d...

Re: CiP: MiBe of Zin extended. 5 runes and counting.

Slow healing is a pain, but there's nothing I can do. Using Zin to cure now is a big risk, because if I then get a really bad mutation I'm screwed. At max piety, Zin gives you 100% mutation resistance. That's true, but outside the Abyss retaining 100% piety doesn't really work. While doing hell and...

I might have gone for a different god if I had realised that Zin doesn't like my Demon Whip. Sad story! Hi, What is the main stat you guys pick for characters who melee with heavy armor? My instinct says str, but is that correct? And if so, when do I stop?
