Re: New skill menu

Level 0 skills are not shown by default. They are only if you press *. If you do so, it's probably to check aptitudes, as it is the only information displayed for level 0 skills. So no reason to dim them. Keys to interact with the menu are arrows, numpad (only 2,4,6,8), enter and letters from 'a' to...

Re: New skill menu

New stuff is only icons and aptitudes. Icons can be turned off with tile_menu_icons. If some people wants to disable only skill icons, I could add an option for that, but we're trying to reduce the number of options, so I'd rather not. However, I'll probably disable the display of aptitudes at least...

The skill menu has been completely rewritten in 0.8. New features are: Aptitudes are always displayed. You can press * to view all skills. Crosstrain bonus and antitrain malus are displayed as aptitude bonus/malus. You can navigate the menu with a cursor. It is disabled by default. Just press enter ...

Don't know why the link on the main page didn't point there though. I think that document was created for a release of Stone Soup. It's not automatically recreated and thus doesn't reflect the current state of the manual. That manual.html is from July 7th. Do you remember who created it and how? I ...

Plenty of things are immune to silence, most notably demons. I wanted to add silence immunity to the monster description, but the code regarding silence is quite messy, so it would need quite a lot of rewriting and cleaning up.

Re: Makhleb: Chance of hostile servances

I think I would take it to 14 and then turn it off. At piety ****** that's only a 4% chance of hostile, and then over the course of the game it may get trained to 15 or 16 while turned "off", which just puts the icing on the cake. This way the remaining trickle of XP going into invocation...

I was kill by an hostile summoned Executioner, once too. Except he wasn't hostile when I summoned him. He turned hostile when I used greater destruction on a monster next to him. It made a fireball which angered him and he killed me. I lacked a brain too this time... :)

Do you have any artefact with -TELE? That could help. You could also use an amulet of stasis, but you might want to keep your amulet slot for rMut in Zot:5.

the irc bots might help you find relevant games. Check this and that. I've never used those commands so I can't provide much more help. I think they are only available through IRC, but I'm not sure. Would be nice to have a web access to it btw, like for the knowledge bots.

Re: late-game weapon choice

It depends. Speed brand doesn't always translate to 100% more damage. For 2 handed weapons with high weapon skill, your base speed is already 7. The speed brand divides the base speed by 2 but rounds up. So going from speed 7 to 4 is a 75% increase, not 100%. Also, AC counts twice, but so does the s...

I had the same labyrinth exit vault recently. Very confusing if you're not expecting it. I spent a lot of time wandering in circles in the metal area and avoiding the rock one thinking it would lead me away from the exit. Maybe there should be some hints at the vault entrance.
