If I'm a long blade or mace user I'll just train the shield and stick with one-handers. Scimitars and morning stars will last you long enough until you find the top tier one-handers. You should always learn Passage of Golubria as MiFi, after that you can stop training Translocations for CBlink and switch to heavy armour from robe.

By the way fighting an early ogre with IE is a bad idea indeed, FE is better in this case because you can often retreat into a corridor and conjure some flame there. So I believe if some player does not mind restarts on D:1 but dies to ogres often, then FE is better for them indeed. I rate FE higher...

how is FE better than IE or even AE Easily after getting level 3 spells online. Conjure Flame allows to escape, Sticky Flame rules when you enter a new level and find an adjacent Elephant, Fireball allows to kill packs in the open. IE is better on D:1 of course. Int 23 is typical Int for a hybrid IMHO. It looks like you put most bonus points into Str, use some MDA/FDA/IDA/ring mail in this case. DCSS CA fork has a chance to identify items with XP, this is the way to go IMHO as it increases options, for example, you are not obligated to blindly read unknown scrolls to find scroll of identify or scrolls from packs.

I would probably use a ring mail and train some Dodging. Don't go all the way to min delay, it is almost never a good idea (quickblade might be an exception).

Last floors of branches with good loot/danger ratio: Elf, Crypt, Slime, Lair, Orc (need gold for the latter).
Last floors of branches with bad loot/danger ratio: Hell, Abyss, Pan, Shoals, Vaults, Tomb.
Last floors of branches with basically no loot: Spider, Swamp, Snake, Zot.

Corona is excellent spell for conserving ammo and hitting high EV targets.
Slow is my opening spell vs fast monsters like Adder (followed by Corona) and high HP monsters like Ogre.
Ledas is better used when you are standing on upstairs.

Probably +2 demon blade of electrocution from Orc and higher Dodging could help, switching should be easy with heroism/crosstraining and crazy damage with finesse.

I agree with OP that having shafts for new players is terrible design. I believe that disabling shafts before first rune of a player and Zot traps before entering Zot for the first time would be much better. Using summons, teleporting away or just requiring luck for tier1 stabs and safe retreats is just what weak characters do to win the game. So yeah, end game SpEn is very hard, it is probably one of few combos who can die to training mistakes, I will take HOGl of Makleb and alike anytime.

If you are a good enough player to think that boots of running is a mere extravagance you do not need, then I feel like you probably shouldn't care too much about getting reisistances on your feet slot, either. qw bot never retreats via running (as far as I know) and still wins in >1% games so boot...

I would read a scroll assuming both fear and blinking are not identified. For future games always training Dodging to get around EV 28+ with Sp at this stage, never train Poison magic above 10, never train spells which are already at 1% failure rate unless you are going for higher level spells.
