The current Chei is bad, but at least he has one good thing going: He is rather simple design-wise, and easy to understand. You get slower, you get stronger. Getting slower is bad, but getting stronger MIGHT be enough to patch that hole.

This simplicity is good.

Jihad is very, very powerful, so definitely pump up long blades ASAP. And don't worry about your aptitude; you can always activate Heroism when you want to kill dudes faster with Jihad. :)

CPA gives +4 more AC, and doesn't hinder spellcasting as much as GDA. rF+ and rC+ are nice, but you can get them from rings, potions, etc. Then there are wands so good that even the game will list them in yellow text in your inventory: invisibility I don't think invisibility wands are ever yellowed.

To OP: Many players (lately, this includes me) consider submerge mechanics as quite annoying, since they slow the game down.
