I think this sums up the problem rather well. Formicids must use a shield, because it's all which makes up for their lack of teleport, haste and rage (shaft and dig and sensing enemies don't really make up for it). This makes spellcasting and stealthy builds problematic for a large part of the game...

Their main gimmick is stasis, and digging to make up for it, but as originally conceived they could also use giant sized weapons, but gave up their shield. I don't think being super good defensively is really their main selling point, although it makes sense along with the stasis. being able to dig...

if you want to play a glass cannon, the option already exists in the game, play an ogre. ogres do a better job of being a glass cannon than formicids because their defenses are even worse than formicids at any point in the game (except for that magical moment where you find a hat and enchant armour...

throwing is still good, tomahawks are basically claws 3 throwing (and javelins is like claws 5) in terms of damage

ghouls couldn't use stoneskin in the first place

you should train UC so you can punch things with your +1 UC aptitude and claws instead of relying on a mediocre weapon(especially short blades...)

ghouls can't reach full, you should be eating chunks to either recover HP or getting out of hungry

S:4 is dangerous because it contains the rune, which is typically surrounded by lots of enemies (most of them high tier) so the enemy density is significantly higher/more deadly

i went into wizmode and tested and it turns out Leda's actually just prevents flight entirely when you cast it (and you can't cast it if you're flying)

edit: you can transform into a dragon while under Leda's and it will cancel it, but you can't transform into a bat or cast Tornado

Sorry to derail the thread, but would it make sense if flying cancelled the effect of leda's liquefaction ? I understand it as the ground getting unstable. It would be nice for Gargoyle and Tengu, and at the same time reduces the efficiency of the spell against flying monsters ? Kinda the opposite ...

no, the move speed change is because slouch used to check action speed (i.e. how fast monsters attack) which meant stuff like spriggans took the same damage as normal move speed monsters despite the fact slouch uses the player's move speed for damage.
