Shields+demon weapons are pretty good.

Shields aren't terrible; they're just usually not as good as two-handed weapons (the increase in defense generally isn't worth the reduction to offense).

I know its not optimal; FE probably do have the upper hand with their good in-between spells, but I think Cj has more straightforward spells akin to a berserker. Vehumet is a much, much, much better choice for spwz than Okawaru is. Oka does almost nothing if you mainly attack using spells, while Vehumet gives a wide range of incredibly useful bonuses.

It is a gate leading to either a sewer (green water, rats/kobolds/snakes/some other things) or an ossuary (zombies and mummies). It will technically close if you don't find it in time, but that takes such a very long time that you don't really need to worry about it if you explore the level normally...
