Re: Who has more than one game in progress at a time?

I often have 3~5 games running at once. Sometimes I am like "man, I feel like tearing something apart with my bare hands today" so I start/resume playing a troll. Sometimes I want to play a fine balancing act with tactical thinking, so I play a frail wizard. Sometimes I wanna go crazy so I...

Re: Favourite unique?

I love love love Gastronok. The intelligent wizard hat-wearing snail? That's just priceless. The bit about the salt is also hilarious. And the speed, toughness and spell selection makes him widely different from other creatures. Not to mention that many of my draconians only found his Wizard Hat to ...

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

I've started trying to play a TrMo of Nemelex. When I draw from a deck of Summoning there seems to be about a 50% chance of the summoned creatures being hostile. What reduces the chance of the summons being hostile? Do I need higher Evocations? Plain decks of summoning are quite bad. The problem is...

Re: Nemelex love

Are decks of Wonders useless, then? Decks of Destruction have proven themselves useful indeed, too, if not used outright point blank. Nah, they're awesome. But dangerous. Potion: can cause Confusion or Degenration, and at higher power level mutation or cure mutation( which is annoying if you had be...

Re: new to spriggan casters, some questions

The tricky bit is getting to lvl 1- let a weak rat or something smack your shield under automatic skill training until you've weighted a good chunk of your xp towards your lvl 0 shields skill, then go kill some things. Actually, you don't need to gain a full level, as soon as you start training it ...

Re: Alternative Gods for SpEn

Many Kiku worshippers completely ignore undead servants, and focus entirely on Agony/Regeneration/Sublimation/etc. You don't have to play Kiku as a summoner. And yes, Kiku is super classic on SpEn. Personally, i don't mind the occasional summoning, especially with Nemelex. It's really a "nuke i...

Re: Need Advice: Attributes, Skills, Demons & The Abyss

There has been numerous occasions that I have been banished the very turn I walked into sight of a Unique. Thing is I had already killed 4 with no troubles. Also, that mage got me the turn, the very turn I walked down the stairs. I had no chance. I think that this is a serious problem. Getting abys...

Re: Do returning weapons get dmg/to-hit bonus when thrown?

Yes, melee weapons suitable for throwing are weak, but indestructible, so you use them to kill weak enemies without wasting ammos. Weapons of Returning make that easier by coming back on their own, so you don't have to keep too many daggers/spears/axes in your inventory.

Re: Straightforward stabbing build with no summoning?

1) Getting the stab in. You need some way to get to your target (or targets) without waking them up. [...] Swiftness and/or haste can help you close the distance before they wake up, or controlled blinking if you really need it or can spare it. No it won't, now the monsters get an "awareness r...

Started with a +3/+1 crossbow and Crossbow 5! Other skills include Stealth 3 and M&F 1 ... and the very first monster is a Kobold wielding a runed Whip! Whoooo! :D The bad news is that with Int 8, I can't really use sorcery, but good news is that I found altars to both Okawaru and Trog on D:2! (...

Re: TriCKy

TrCK are a pretty good choice for semi-beginners who want to try plenty of stuff without having to think through things too much. If you do well, you do well, and if you don't, Xom is amused. Win win. That lets a player move through the game and try stuff at a pretty swift pace.

Re: Alternatives to Wizard

I like the idea of the Wizard class. Specialist in magic, but not in a magic school - see where the game takes you, travel the world, meet lots of interesting monsters and cast interesting spells on them. Crawl by design gives you lots of scope for adaptation. But, for whatever reason, I'm not gett...

Re: Troll Hunter

Now that you have some experience, what's your opinion on Dodge vs Armor for Trolls?

Start training Dodge and switch to training Armor when you get something worthwile later, but make sure to train enough before starting to wear a heavy dragon armour?
