You can find descending stairs or a shaft and go there. It's risky and purely dependent on luck, but it is doable. And what about the characters who don't find those stairs? And if they do, what if there's something worse down there? What if the jackals have already whittled down the character's HP...

There's not much choice in that regard if they are the very first thing you encounter in d:1. Nothing will save a TeAE who miscasted 3 times against jackals on d:1, even in magical optimal play™ land. The early game is always a dice roll that is independent of player skill.

What is required for a 19k turn, 15-rune game?

Obviously there needs to be a very good and ballsy player at the wheel, but what are the specific non-player related factors for a melee character? Like is early altar + good weapon good enough, or do you need the RNG to be favouring you every step of the way to even approach 19k?

What's the rationale behind this? They're both 1-handed long blades, so surely you would think they adhere to same restrictions regarding what you can and can't equip as a halfling, but demon blades are the only one out of the two swords that you can equip with a shield?

It works fine in trunk, but any 0.20 game doesn't have the monster damage displayed and constantly displays 'LUA error' anytime I take a turn a turn.
I play on the xtahua web server, if that's any help.

Invisibility is barely viable as it is, the most annoying monsters can see invisible so you might as well invest exp in something actually usable for 100% of fights, I would not consider it a 'good' spell let alone an 'amazing' spell.
