Sage card with power level 0 indeed boosts a completely random skill. So now I have a FeBe with Necromancy:4.0. Luckily Trog didn't seem to mind.

Don't fight very large slime creatures (or bigger). When you see one slime creature, expect there to be more outside your LOS. They can't shout, so let that one creature come to you and kill it. Rinse and repeat until all slimes are dead. If a very large or bigger one approaches, go behind a corner....

Thanks to everyone, I think I'm keeping the GS amulet on. I'm training Fighting and UC at the same pace. Now I'm wondering how much to train Evocations, since more MP means more HP. Originally I thought just to train about 5 levels Evo for the evokables.

I had a pretty intense Orc:1 experience with a FeBe. Granted, I played it far from optimally, but when you enter the Mines and there is a huge crowd with several priests etc. it can be interesting.

Well, I didn't find it painful at all. In fact, I don't usually do any kind of remapping of keys for abilities or spells. I also never use tab (but I do use 'o' all the time).

In my VpVM game (5-runer) I never used bat form once. I found a ring of invis quite early and had evoke invis at 'h'. Bottle blood was at 'i'.

Dungeon, because it offers a nicely increasing challenge in the early game. Later it is a reasonably safe place to gather experience and equipment for the more dangerous parts. Then Vaults:5, because I love the challenge and layout. Then Zot.

Am I correct in that the only effect of Dodging skill is increasing EV? So after gaining a point of EV, training more Dodging does nothing until you get another point of EV.

One of the key issues is Crawl is learning to use consumables and other available resources before it is too late to use them. You can't develop a dead character.

Vaults:5 is absolutely difficult enough in 0.13.1 as it is. There is no need to make it more difficult. If something really must be done, I'd suggest just adding some more monsters to the outer rim.

There is only one level of poison resistance, so yes, rPois+ is enough. You can try the first level and see what it feels like. But do the whole of Lair first, if you haven't yet. If you go to Spider, leave the 5th level until later (do more Dungeon first).

Get out of the Elven Halls immediately, it's dangerous. I usually do Lair (including rune branches), Vaults 1 - 4 and Dungeon to 20 - 27 before going to Elf. Elf:3 is much more dangerous than the first two levels, but you also won't gain much from Elf:1 - 2 so it's best to leave it all until later. ...
