True, but I thought that minimum was applied before equipment. So negative raw stealth (from skill-armour) becomes 0, and then you get any bonus from rings. Am I wrong about that?

And there went my MiBe. Got sloppy while mopping up V:5 and didn't notice that a vault warden had a distortion weapon. Grabbed the rune while I was there from the honeycomb vault but was smitten to death by meliai before the teleport kicked in. Guess my 2 wins will be all I get this tournament.

Sorry. It does feel unfair to me that Z:5 sometimes, but not usually, has both paths blocked; makes a rather large difference in difficulty from a simple RNG roll.

Roguelikes need to rethink traps. What they're meant to accomplish, how they should be dealt with. They end up as a random event that harms you out of the blue. As if someone once read a story with dungeons and traps, and thought "wouldn't it be cool if the game had traps!" but not going ...

Well the OP can speak for themself. I was aware of the 5% rule; but while the game indeed has plenty of stepdown functions I'm unsure what purpose they serve that isn't served better by the well-known diminishing returns from XP investment (which can be made harsher if need be).

Rules confusion --- just got my second win of the tournament (GrMo^Gozag). It seems I'm not getting the other 5000 points, though; is the issue that it doesn't count as distinct from my DDMo as they're both monks?

I think if the delay is too great (more than a turn or so) then one will have to spend just as much time thinking about which items to have in inventory versus stash, as stashed items will be unusable in combat. And if the delay isn't too great then one might as well just get rid of the 52-item limi...

Isn't this almost equivalent to just removing the 52-item limit (plus some changes to how autopickup works)? I assume using an item from stash would be almost as fast as using it from inventory.

Ok, Tomb has gotten much harder, or at least such is my understanding; I haven't tried it in years quite frankly. Zot --- I guess the new version of traps does increase one's odds of being marked in the Z:5 vault. One of the best uses of potions of cancellation IMO.

Depends what other armour you have, I'd say. And whether you can realistically get Iron Shot castable again before too long (I find LRD annoying to use). I'd be tempted anyway if Swamp was in my future, if only to have the chance to melee Lerny in it.

Ugh. I just lost a MiBe. Gauntlet minotaur had a +7 glaive of distortion, and that was basically all she wrote.

Question: can getting hit with distortion teleport/blink you in Gauntlet? I realize now that maybe it can't; in which case I could have berserked and had a better chance.

I agree that ammo for throwing is rare enough to matter. OTOH, it's also rare enough to be annoying; micromanaging my quiver is annoying, to the point that if I have just one silver javelin I usually won't use it just to avoid the UI screw.

Yeah, Vine Stalkers are probably the species where I have the most sympathy with "game is won by Lair" people; certainly there's a point where it gets rather easy. But not so easy to get there.

Oh, obviously bonuses should be scaled to level. I suspect there should still be some bonus for D:2, but it could be a small one. (Say, one or two identified bad consumables; still mildly useful in that they made emergency blind-reading/quaffing safer, but not too exciting.)

I think the idea is that it's a mild nerf to summons, but mild enough that one won't do tedious things to avoid it. Do you think it is optimal to do those tedious things?

On the other hand, ghouls have +10% maxHP while bloodless vampires have -20%. (Alive vampires aren't really so undead.) That's a big difference.

(Also, I've never won a vampire, while I've won multiple ghouls. But my experience may not be typical.)
