I'd rather Mummies be literally invincible than have cursed equipment death curses. The curses don't make them monsters you want to avoid, they make them trivial for 90% of characters and (mildly) crippling for unspoiled Dj players.

Beyond everything else about this proposal, Hell effects are one of the most annoying parts of Crawl and I'm not in favor of turning the entire game into "dive fast to save on frustration."

Rc-- is mechanically identical to rc- besides needing more resistance to negate it, so I don't think the downside is that unworkable.

I'm not sure why the race needs high stat growths, though.

Why would you ever eat "small" food items after lair? The entire point of this topic in regard to eating permafood is less keypresses. Eating 3 1500 satiation fruit requires you to do 6 presses. Clever players can do that in 4 (e, <item slot>, ~, ~). If you play offline it just takes three!

So if the idea is to make these enemies dangerous and resistant to attempts to teleport away, why not do this: Hellhounds now travel in large packs and/or spawn in very high numbers. When they howl you, you receive a long-ish duration (~mark duration) status effect that teleport-closes 1-3 hellhound...
