TRJ is one of the best things to use it against, although because of the way the beams spread out you have to be standing next to it, meaning you will be surrounded by spawns.

I wouldn't use it against an OOF or iron dragon though.

Very good if you train a lot of evocations.

It's mostly good for doing a lot of damage to a single adjacent, low-AC target, as AC is counted against each shot separately. Works great against jellies etc.

Since evoking one elemental evoker makes all of that type inert, multiples of the same type are redundant (unless I'm misunderstanding something about how they work.) So why not treat them as artifacts, so only one of each type can be generated in a game? (Though probably with the same chance of one...

And the success rate of shadow form/shadow step; Shadow step only needs about 3 invo to have 0% fail, but shadow form needs a lot - 12 or more to be reliable.

While the poison damage from high level blowgun "stabs" would still take a long time to kill most monsters, would it allow Ignite Poison to do huge damage instantly?

I used to use scale mail a lot - when it was elven scale mail and I was a HE or DE; elven armour + extra bonus for being an elf made quite a big difference to the encumbrance and spellcasting penalties and was IIRC better than a base ring mail.

When I've got this mutation in the past I've always hated it; everyone says it's great, and sure, having less monsters in LOS is a good thing, but the reduced LOS also means you have less information about what other threats are just beyond what you can see, and so I find it harder to make decisions...

If anything should get its noise reduced it's probably Glaciate; it's generally considered weaker than Fire Storm, so why not make it the low-noise high-level conjuration to buff it a bit?

AFAIK, friendly shadow imps casting animate dead was removed because it allowed the player to build up a permanent undead army without learning any necromancy. Now zombies are no longer permanent, is there any reason for shadow imps not to get the spell back?

The issue with animate skeleton and to a lesser extent animate dead is that they're so cheap to get and their effects don't scale with spellpower, but instead dungeon level -- they're basically a poor man's shadow creatures. Why not make hydra form get healing from killing any monster that can leave an edible corpse? (You can bite pieces off the corpse without having to eat it whole.) Also, as sandman25 says, it's not completely clear what "size" refers to - is it your size in hydra form or your natural size? ...

Whenever I have 2 consumables that do essentially the same thing, I always wonder whether I should still carry both. (e.g. wand and potions of heal wounds, or wand and scrolls of teleport.) Of course there are differences - most forms can't use wands, confusion disables scrolls and effectively wands...

So, does the singularity count as an ally, rather than damage done by the player for the purposes of XP gain etc? It seems that when worshipping Makhleb, when a monster is killed by damage from the singularity I do not regain HP as I would if I killed the monster myself.

What if hydra form just transformed your head into multiple, hydra-like necks/heads, melding headgear (& maybe amulets?) but leaving other armour and EV intact? Damage might have to be nerfed a bit (and the +50% HP bonus reduced or removed) to make it not strictly better than blade hands vs sing...

Just my two cents worth… I don't object to species that are obviously railroaded into one weapon or whatever. I think it is fun (as well as being easier) being able to advance very quickly in my chosen attack method in the early game. In fact, if Mf didn't exist I would probably never use pole arms ...

What, do you shoot the arrows harder? Honestly, probably. Have you tried to use a bow man? Shit is hard on the upper body. Yeah, medieval longbows were so hard to draw that professional archers often had deformed spines. (Maybe that should be a new mutation that gives + slaying with bows but -EV…)

Like dragon form, hydra form benefits a lot from Ozocubu's Armour. (and to a lesser extent, Condensation Shield.) You may be better off starting as an IE rather than a Tm to guarantee that you have access to them.

You need a rune to get into Vaults (branch) these days, so you can't go there unless you get to the end of Snake or Swamp.
