Re: Weapon choice for a VpVM

Thanks for the advice. I'm still going to go with short blades, though, as stabbing is so much fun. I also have a ring of invisibility, which has stayed cursed on my finger ever since I got my first scroll of curse jewellery. I realize that I can't stab everything and I have some offensive spells (S...

Re: Death by poison is bad for the game

I also feel that in modern Crawl, practically all of my characters' deaths could have been avoided. I'm not entirely sure about the early days of Crawl. The early game felt harder in Linley's Dungeon Crawl 3.20/3.30/3.40 :) Personally, with an XL 1 character, I'll rather take a risk than flee in a d...

Weapon choice for a VpVM

I have an XL 20 VpVM of Ash, who has so far been stabbing things with a +6 dagger of flame. It's obviously great for stabbing (!!!!!-stabs) but I'm in trouble with large skeletons etc. if I can't stab them. So I'm considering upgrading the weapon to get some more non-stabbing damage. No quick blades...

Re: Ring on amulet ? Kinda funny !

Now, this amulet changes my idea though. It says it's a "finger necklace" so does this mean the rings actually do go on the characters fingers? If so, why can't most characters wear 10? (Other than the fact that it would be game breaking) The usual roguelike explanation is that the magica...

Re: Death by poison is bad for the game

Losing a beginning character on D:1 does not hurt me a bit. I expect Crawl to be cruel, and the fear of dying should be present from the start. In my opinion, nothing in the current situation with regard to the danger level of D:1 should be changed. The game does not have to guarantee that every cha...

I play really short sessions, from 5 minutes to 1 - 2 hours. I also play really slowly: My last 3-runer was Turns: 234739, Time: 2, 00:25:44. So losing an advanced character really hurts. I deal with the loss by starting a new character immediately.

Sure. What I meant was that I'm used to dropping, for example, rings or potions of flight at the Lab entrance, to get inventory space for Lab loot. If that kind of vaults are possible, I'm taking flight with me in the Lab.
