I am not sure it can be called "balanced". I play another game (eador.com) where player can have multiple "characters" (even simultanously). When a character "dies", it is resurrected in 2-6 turns (depending on place where it happened) so it is possible to win the game...

It's in the init file, simply put 999 on those.

According to me it's more an issue with the option not allowing specific class/race setting right now.

Why not add a ? of vorpal? It's an interesting choice because it's buff on an early weapon is good, but also kind of a waste considering the rarity of vorpal. It would also remove a big MP drain early on. Or give them one or two ! that could buff him (berzerk, might, agility), kind of an early panic...

I used wizard to test, never in a "real" game.
I save scummed one to have a feel of the mutation roulette with a corpse. (I know the % in the code give you this info, but I find it easier to just try)

Even easy species can become challenging if you decide. Just try a MiWz or SpMo.

According to me it's a more ellegant system than a simple easy/normal/hard mode.
