I don't understand how some people think that removal is unnecessary for good design. Has anyone else seen someone's Magic deck where they only added cards, never taking any out? Aimless chaff is bad for the whole, even if you think that they're fun individually. Say that to my Battle of Wits deck'...

Well, the fire rains down from the sky.
So you dance around and try not to get hit, but when you do, your magic resistance allows you to shrug off some of the damage.
It makes perfect sense.

@Sprucery, That is a possibility... but my habit when using stairs is to not move until I've seen the level, and I do not believe this was an exception. Otherwise, there were no monsters in my LoS before I descended the stairs. I don't know what was at the bottom because I was immediately teleported.

Yeah, I just played a Xom game earlier. Had 3 runes, 67 AC, 20 EV, 40 SH.
Then decided I *had* to do Elf. Got Abyssed (after already getting the abyssal rune the first time that happened), then died to a Lich's Crystal spear (42 damage) that Xom summoned.

Xom giveth and Xom taketh away.

I fail to see how him throwing you is a ranged attack.
He has to be in melee range to use it. You are not being hit by anything thrown, you are the projectile.
IMO, this is a melee attack and should be subject to damage mitigation by armor & gdr

I think you should still have to stop and eat, even if the rations never go away.

Otherwise it completely negates Hungry Ghosts, spell hunger, rod hunger, zerk hunger, etc

Don't do it in Hell.
Hell affects can cause !cancel and drop you dead in deep water or lava.

I am not sure i get the point of this god i mean it might be interesting to play, but unless i misread it somehow, it seems like "very limited/gimped spellcasting" in exchange for.... only having to train invocations, and not having to pick up spellbooks or amnesia scrolls? Maybe i missed...
