Crystal Ball of Energy can really KILL you.

Wizard is great... unless you have to explore the dungeon to it's 13th floor with only Throw Flame (because you just can't get any other offensive spells for some reason), then you might have a bit of a rough time.

Regardless of that, I say Wizard vs IE debate is kind of pointless.

If you have a book with Orb of Destruction, learn it. It's good.

Don't learn Bolt of Cold. You better learn Fire Magic, 'cause Firestorm is great.

EDIT: I think you better find a free Amulet of Clarity. Don't buy it from a shop, unless the amulet has other properties.

For two-gods race, it could be made that Piety has to be shared between the two gods, so the grand total of Piety points is still 200. So for example, if you worship Makhleb and Trog at once, you can have 100 Piety points on each of the two gods.

Yeah, I think Makhleb is good for beginner only. My DDNe almost never used Makhleb's abilities anymore at lategame.
