It's kind of a weird holdover, Oka used to take piety away whenever allies died, thankfully that was removed. I would guess the reason the ally hurting conduct was left because "Eh why not", after all it's rarely relevant. I've never used spellbinder. Do the miscast effects hurt you too? ...

1. One MR is really inconsequential. If you put every stat boost into int, you wouldn't even have a fifth of a ring of MR at the game's end.
2. I'm not sure that making int even more desirable for casters is the way to go.
