I don't know if str vs dex matters. They are equally weighted for normal shields and str is better for large shields. Disaster area is the best use of qazal piety in my experience. I used to be a fan of upheaval, but disaster area allows characters to posture more aggressively, and honestly that feels nice in combination with qaz.

DEWn and MuWn have worse starts than NaWn.

DE can get hosed by a large number of starting kits, and early useful spellbooks are much less common than early useful weapons.
Mu are just bad.

Well I'm saying the different areas have profoundly different effects on your attention, and this is directly related to how dangerous they are. Profane halls are much less likely to kill you because your attention lapses. They are also much more likely to kill you than crypt.

As far as winning the game goes, as a human/elf/mummy, you're better off not doing crypt or elf, because by the time you can enter those branches, the main threat to your character is lapses in attention , so it's better to do as few levels as possible. I'd use the chain, mainly because of your crossbow. If you were a meleebro, i'd use the plate. Ranged weapons often reach a critical mass with +slay, with those gloves and those base stats you have to be close to that point.
