Re: rPois in trunk is just meaningless

Yes, but statistically speaking... let's say for sake of simplicity that big poisonous monster "P" attacks 3 times. Let's say, also for simplicity, that you have (without rpois) 50% of probability of being poisoned. So, without rpois, during a single fight with P: 12.5% of the times, all 3...

Re: rPois in trunk is just meaningless

I like PF idea very much, always speaking from the perspective of a player. rF makes fire enemies easier. If I understand the mechanics correctly, rPois does not, because if it only diminishes the probability of being poisoned, this makes maybe half of the monsters (the "lucky" ones) as da...

rPois in trunk is just meaningless

Hi all, this post if from a player who never won Crawl till now, so you know my experience is low. But, from the point of view of a not-so-experienced player, rPois as actually works in trunk (0.16-a0-263-g9fbdb5d) is useless/meaningless. I try to be concise. If I fight anything with the proper resi...

Re: A couple of advice for my SpWr slinger

If you made it to Lair with a Warper of all things, you're probably pretty good at the game! Thank you SchwaWarrior for your nice words :D Sorry for delayed reply but I could not reach the forum in the past days, I think there was some connectivity issue. In the meanwhile I tried a HaHu, and some o...

Re: A couple of advice for my SpWr slinger

Now I checked knowledge bot and found that... 0.13 order: Lair -> D:13 -> Orc -> D:20 -> Vaults (but not Vaults:5) -> D:27 -> get three runes -> Zot. 0.14 order: D -> Lair:8 -> Orc:3 -> D:16 -> Snake/Spider:5 -> Vaults:4 -> Depths:6 -> Swamp/Shoals:5 -> Vaults:5 -> Zot So definitely I should have co...

Re: A couple of advice for my SpWr slinger

OK, thank you for the advice! Hero is great, you are right, I have to use it more often. At the moment unluckily i cleared the Lair and Orcish Mines. Then I read somewhere that correct order should be: - Dungeon till Lair - Clear Lair - Clear OM - First 4 levels of Shoals/Swamp/Snake - Continue dung...

A couple of advice for my SpWr slinger

Hi guys! the idea behind this SpWr was to have a "utilty/mobility ranged with stabbing chances". So I developed it with ranged combat in mind, started with melee/throwing until I found a sling, then trained slings. High stealth means I can choose my combats. Blink and Passage Of G. help to...

Re: Some newbie questions...

You don't need decent AoE damage. Instead of training AoE damage, try to draw single monsters away from packs, use corridors, etc. Maybe I am just not good enough at doing this... For example when you say: If you can't handle a monster, just run upwards and come down a different staircase I ...

Re: Some newbie questions...

get rmsl, blink, haste if you find those spells, get only utility spells, no conjurations The reason I usually go for casting spells is to have rmsl (I find very difficult fighting packs of ranged centaurs), invisibility if i find it, and to have some decent AoE damage with fireball or similar spel...

Re: Some newbie questions...

The first reason I choosed Nemelex is... because I like it :P The second is that with "deal 4 cards" I get a very cool lifesaver, that is effective with many types of decks (destruction, evasion, summoning...) A legendary deck of summoning saved my life many times, too, also with the stand...

Re: Some newbie questions...

Thank you all for the advices. I will train more armor and dodge. I understand the attack part much better than the defense part. another quick question: is there a way to break down stats in what constitutes them? For example, If I have X EV, is there a way to split it in components? Something like...

Re: Some newbie questions...

Well, at the moment usually I am not training none of dodge, stealth and armor. Some times I tried to train dodge, and sometimes stealth. I found both to be quite effective in early game (early for me, in first 6-8 dungeon levels), but in later levels they not seemed so effective. Maybe I should tra...

Some newbie questions...

Hi all! I have a couple of question hoping that some of you more experienced crawlers can answer. A bit of background: i played 105 times, my best are a 55000 HEAM-15 dead by starving (no comments please  ) at Lair:7 and a 41700 HEHu-13 slain by a skeletal warrior at D:13. Usually my developin...

Re: New mechanics for ammo destruction

I get what you mean, and it actually makes sense. +1 for the proposal of the "always munch" that is easier to understand and more intuitive Rethinking my own proposal, having (potentially) infinite "low level" ammo actually breaks balance because of kiting (I didnt think about it...

Re: New mechanics for ammo destruction

Some of you got my point, and some did not. The point is not about the power, the ease, being tedious or not. The point is about fun, or pleasure in playing ranged characters. It's just not funny to use another weapon (melee, btw) to kill bats - adders - kobolds - and so on. And it's not funny devel...

New mechanics for ammo destruction

Hi all, playing a hunter or arcane marksman is often frustrating because of lack of arrows in early levels, until you get to Lair or to a decent Piety level for Okawaru. I dont mean it's impossible, you have various possibilities, most obvious being: - going into melee - training another ranged skil...

Re: Hunter build: armor and fighting skill

Ok, thank you all for replies. Now all is quite clear. At the moment I am at 40 chars, best is a LVL12 HeHu dead at Lair:5 (D:11), killed by a storm of death yaks (sob), about 24000 crawl points. I understood that the main rule is: Distraction kills. Sufficience kills. Everything can kill you if you...

Hunter build: armor and fighting skill

Hi all, I am quite new to DCSS and I am starting to love this game. Permadeath keeps it interesting, and character development is wonderful. I dont want to min-max too much (I did a lot in WoW and I dont want to go that way) but I need to understand a bit more a couple of questions. 1) Is fighting s...
