what can i do? Learn Iskenderun's Mystic Blast. When Im playing DECj i usaually learn all spells from the starting book; in this order Searing Ray>Dazzling Spray>Battlesphere>IMB>Fulminant Prism. Then I try to get one of bolt spells from elemental schools (usually bolt of fire or bolt of cold).

eh not sure; it was almost the end of the game when I found it in the Elven Halls, after that I went straight to the Zot to grab the Orb; already had all things needed for win, felt like there is no need to wear it; and maybe wanted to have better EV in ring mail and to be able to cast any of spells...

Learn Bolt of Fire (Vehumet should give it) and Venom Bolt or Iron Shot as backup for fire immune monsters.
