For anyone else who runs into this, I solved this problem by using ~k to set a key's binding back to itself, and then ~m to clear the macro attached to that key. Don't ask me why this works.

It's not just 12 hours blown here - DgEE had 72 previous attempts before this character finally made it to XL27. Only to be control-q'd by a miserable griefer. Whatta world... Yeah I agree it might be confusing to have a rechargeable equipped item, I was kind of just spitballing ideas to balance it... We don't need to use analogies to Nethack to see how this mechanic would work - the Illusion card already does it. It's just that most players don't bother with cards or Nemelex because inventory management. One thing I'm not clear on is how Evocations skill affects the strength of the Illusion card...

Unrand: Cloak of the Rakshasa

I really like the mechanics of illusions in crawl. On the enemy side, we have Rakshasas, Mara, and Mara's hostile illusions. On the player's side, there are Phantom Mirrors which allow copying enemies, and the Illusion card which copies the player character using ghost code. However, both of these a...

Ranged combat in one screenshot

I captured a screenshot that sums up my thoughts about ranged combat. -Multiple shots have caused no damage (this is normal for crawl, but ranged combat makes it so much more obvious than normal) -monster has closed to melee distance with 9/10ths of its starting health -High ammo mulch rate (I took ...

You're right. Old learndb (crawled 29 Aug 2014) claims... Fighting without a weapon. Base damage is 3 + UC skill (+2 per claws level (so +6 Tr, +2 Gh), +X for forms); delay 10 - UC/5.4; +2 to hit (+4 Tr/Gh). This delay is increased to max(10, 1d10+2dAEVP) - UC/5.4 if wearing heavy armour, plus the u...

The simplest way to check the speed of an attack, at current skill level, is just to use control + direction to swing at an empty square and view the time it just took to do it, in parentheses after the Time field on the game screen. But of course you want to know how it all works. So here we go... ...

Slightly off topic, but I wonder also if searching "armor" could be special-cased to return results for "armour." I know Crawl is standardized to Australian English, but it's a very common search term, and a possible source of confusion for new players.

I definitely won't play any stupid mummies (or octopodes, felids, formicids). I can see your reasoning for avoiding these races, but if you want to win with Xom, you might give Formicid another look. The best change I ever made to my rcfile was to include
  Code:
autofight_stop = 60
to disable the tab key when my hp is less than 60%. The default value of 30% feels way too late to start wondering whether mindlessly tabbing is really a good idea. I would recommend this change to just about everyone.

This is an interesting proposal. Seems like certain Felid builds could find it pretty useful for ditching gods like Xom, Nem or Sif, and retaining their gifts of useful muts, evokables and books. I have some questions about the implementation though. You've called this a straight buff to felids, but...
