Oddly, I cannot seem to get monsters to quaff potions of experience, despite being of types (eg orcs) that normally will use potions. So the principle you mention, Lasty, seems to be particularly reliable for exp potions.

Why would you raise fighting and not polearms? If you're attacking a non trivial amount, it definitely makes more sense to raise weapon skill over fighting. Basically because I thought all the winning healers I've seen have some Fighting skill and some dodging skill (this is not actually the case!)...
