I grab these items while it's convenient (i.e. I am standing on them) and dump them in my stash. It saves me food, piety, and time. I'll risk a little item destruction for that. Thanks for letting me know about its lack of correlation with my character, though.

Ok, that fixed the problem with make and I was able to properly compile a .15 build. I had to experiment a bit to find out what resources it needed from the build directory in order to run (fonts, databases, etc). But it works now. I hope this post can help someone else in the future.

Going back to msysgit, it looks like I used the full installer rather than the netinstaller. The full installer doesn't come with make for whatever reason. I'm dropping the netinstaller on my box now. Hopefully that sorts everything out for me. >:[

For the record, I have used msysgit to clone the repository, but when I try to run make, I get:

$ make
sh.exe": make: command not found

I'm not married to the idea of using VS2012, so if anyone can tell me why make isn't working, I'm happy to use it instead.

Thanks for the advice, Definitearticle. As long as I summoned help and controlled the amount of foes on me, I was able to trash everything. The Crypt was a pain in the ass because Shadow Creatures wouldn't work there. >:(

The only thing that gives me pause here is my flimsy armor. I kept it light so I could cast my summons. I guess my crappy shield isn't helping much anyway. I'll pump all my xp into long blades/fighting/armor/summoning and try to upgrade to scale or chain, I suppose.

One other interesting thing: I am currently on a Depths level where the only way forward is to cross a river. There is no land path, so it has to be teleport or fly. Never seen that before. ADOM was bad about it, but I didn't think that kind of design was part of DCSS.
