It does more damage and you take less self-damage per arc, the chance of it arcing is slightly higher, and the chance of creating more initial arcs is higher (assuming you have more than one enemy next to you).

Centaurs and Nagas are large and can wear bucklers (and so have no penalty for doing so). Ogres and Trolls are large and can't wear bucklers. Draconians aren't large and can't wear bucklers.

Not quite. It does 30% damage to enemies with rPois+++ which is definitely not worth the cost, but it's not terrible against things with just rPois+ (it does about half damage, as well as still being able to inflict poison).

Eh, the same vault fooled me once too and I was certainly annoyed but it's still fairly funny. It gives you porridge (much more than you need to find your way out again, although it's not like food usage is ever an issue anyway), labs are easy , and you'll know for the future to look out.

And as far as I know, the plan is actually to reduce the number of classes that start with a god. It makes Crawl's first big milestone (making it to the Temple) rather meaningless if you can just start with any god. There's some proposals on the wiki, anyway.

Hint: don't use Maxwell's Patent Armour, it's a terrible unrandart. :P

If you're playing trunk where Enchant Armour scrolls don't have a failure chance it's not even that hard to get a plain +10 plate mail (or a bit lower but with no horrible -TELE).

You can bless axes just fine, they just don't get their base stats enhanced like long blades or demon weapons. A blessed executioner's axe is a fantastic extended-endgame weapon, regardless.

There was a bug which made all skill training very cheap if you started and then cancelled a reskill; it was fixed in this recent commit.

Perhaps the XP boost doesn't even need to be completely removed and it was just that bug causing people to get absurd skill levels.

Unless you really want to dedicate yourself to casting Haunt (which is a fun tactic as well), definitely get the pain brand. It'll destroy essentially everything in a 3-rune game.

I'm pretty sure you're underestimating the usefulness of might (and regeneration). And rN+++ isn't really necessary on EV characters, I never go out of my way to get it even for V:8. Good EV and rMsl does the trick just fine. Although personally I wouldn't recommend Oka either since he's so boring, ...

It's not at all unlikely to find a pain weapon from Pikel or Grinder early on, too. Generally you should only not go Makhleb if you have a *really* good reason.

Why are you wearing a -3, -5 ring of slaying?
