Ghouls and gloves

Does wearing gloves remove the benefits of ghouls' claws in unarmed combat? It seems reasonably logical (as in, your claws are inside gloves/gauntlets) and gloves must be taken off to chop up meat. On the other hand, there is no indication that this is the case (no special message and since you don'...

Well, this is a great idea, though a bit harder to visualise in ASCII.

Re: DCSS Weapon Comparison spreadsheet

Galehar: I'm pretty sure I do account for damage enchantment - it's the second item added in B141, and that total is then used to calculate the % to hit chance. Yeah, right. I was surprised that the big weapons have a better damage output than the smaller ones at low skill. Despite the speed and ac...

Re: Balancing the factors in melee damage

I think that this discussion would be even more interesting if research like yours had higher granularity (and perhaps considered a few vastly different weapons) to catch any oddities in the system (like, for example, illustrate how the damage gains are reduced once you hit the minimum delay) and me...

Re: Ogre Healthcare Department

Ogres in DCSS create a jarring cognitive dissonance. When you meet ogres in the dungeon, they are the biggest, toughest and most dangerous early monsters and you think that playing an ogre will let you tear the early game up and then a kobold kills you.

Re: XP from summons

Oops, thanked KoboldLord's message by accident, so now I must reply, because I disagree. Boggarts are a tactically interesting monster, and we need more monsters like them. While "more tactically interesting monsters" is a good direction to go in, it doesn't mean that they should be like b...

Re: Which is the best Race for a Hunter

I won with a 3-rune crossbow user who Xbowed most things in Zot despite having a shield, crystal plate mail and pumping up Dex due to a demon whip, which wasn't all that useful, because even a fire orb could be quickly bolted to death. So I guess my advice is - crossbows are good, use them!

YAFVP - The Hand of Trog is moving...

...and its finger points to a Deep Dwarf. I've made this character to clear out some early ghosts and while he only managed to find and destroy one, he more than made up for it by not dying to anything in the game. I've greatly enjoyed Trog's Hand in this game, which powered by an early amulet of fa...

Re: Racial gods for Crawl species (Beogh-like)

I think it would be more interesting to add gods that can be worshipped by anyone, but especiall like one or a few of the races. E.g. a god of deep water who really likes merfolk and gives them additional bonuses or is easier to gain/maintain piety with if you're a merfolk.

Items emiting mutagenic radiation

How does it work? Do I get some glow while putting them on? Wearing them for extended periods of time. Is it safe to wear one all the time if I'm not inducing glow from other sources? Should I just keep it for special occassions or skip it altogether?

Re: What in Crawl isn't fun?

One thing that I really despise in Crawl is managing stacks of ammo (at least with a god that gifts ammo, though the wild herds of centaurs and yaktaurs that run around in the midgame would probably be enough to cause a good headache). Various different stacks of ammo quickly fill up my inventory (b...

Thanks a lot! Is it worthwhile to train shield up higher on a DEFE? They have a rather poor aptitude for shields.

List of unknown items

There should be a list of unknown items available somewhere in the game (you could list unknown items on the list of discoveries ' \ ' greyed out or make a new screen for them altogether). After a few more successful games I've seen most of the available potions/scrolls and therefore any fun to be h...
