Solution to the Inventory Problem

We all know the problem -- 60% of your inventory is consumed by potions and scrolls alone. In light of this, I say have a simple solution -- use a "handy haversack" like DnD to store potions and scrolls. I can understand the 52 item limit on inventory due to keyboard shortcut limitations/e...

Early Distortion Brands on Monsters

Sooo... I've come to realize that Distortion brands are (generally) vastly too powerful for early monsters to have. Generally speaking, to make matters worse they appear in the hands of uniques that also can blink/move fast (Sonja, Psyche, etc), worsening the problem. The brand reliably does ridicul...

Re: The Development of a Tank

^I do adjust my plans. For example, my last good run today I switched from M&F because on D:3 I found a +10 trident (piercing, Str +4). I ended up focusing on combat because by D:11 I had only found one spellbook, and while I liked having Mehp and Conjure flame in the same book, it wasn't worth ...

Re: The Development of a Tank

Yes, I will get Evo going sooner, I think. That said, if I had focused on Hexes for even a single level (I was considering stopping shields anyway, which would have left more free XP), I would have easily gotten to full power as I have on previous (although less successful) runs. This type of choice...

Re: The Development of a Tank

^^I could have avoided her, but I had gone invisible to keep out of LOS. I didn't have any MR, I believe -- the only MR I had was some ring mail I found early on and gotten rid of. No way to block line of fire. That said, I could have Hexed her easily -- I had Meph Cloud, ofc, to confuse, and also d...

Re: remove mummies and vampires (or let them starve)

Not sure how well this would work, but there could be the option (I believe mentioned in here once) of using a Mark system to force monsters to find players after a certain point. The idea that a handful of random monsters still stuck on a level will be a good thing is lost to me -- let players kill...

Re: Player ghost aggravation

Player ghosts pose the most threat, imo, to caster builds/stabbers. They are typically resistant to just about everything an early caster/stabber has in their repertoire, and can easily kill. Ghosts of casters are generally pushovers, as are light-melee builds. The problem, however, is that things l...

Build Dilemmas

Soo, running a GrEE of Chei build. Was planning on just doing an Axe-tank caster type. Then I've found a remarkably good (for D:7) artefact rapier. Thoughts? I'm not too far into a build to redirect since I haven't found shields, heavy armor, etc, and I've got decent stealth inherently from my apt a...

Re: Let players choose their god at character creation

Hopefully this isn't thread necromancy -- it's only been a month. Still, this is a topic I've thought a great deal about during my play, and didn't want to bother with a new thread. I think Monks should be adjusted to give "well-rounded but mediocre" stats. Like, +3 Str, +3 Int, +3 Dex; Le...

Re: GrFi of Cheibro Tank -- thoughts and advice

Yeah, that armor was nice...and on my shopping list. That said, +8 plate armor gave better AC and the helpful rN maxing, with 5 less points of encumbrance. So, at the moment, the plate armor was decent. Truth be told, I tend to want to conserve my scrolls too badly for my own good. Had I blinked onc...

Re: The Development of a Tank

OH, definitely. I mean, on D:2 I'm already using a mace and armor more than anything else. Still, Gargoyles start with rather good innate strength (11, if I remember correctly) which makes melee fine for their build, and have the innate AC and GDR which gives a bit of durability. Starting with a boo...

Re: The Development of a Tank

4Hooves You make a good case for either starting with an axe, or sticking with M&F. I usually have no problem finding great Exec Axes, oddly, despite the fact I can't get anywhere near their min-delay for them to be useful. Just curious how valuable you'd place a ranged weapon. Last run I found...

Re: GrFi of Cheibro Tank -- thoughts and advice

That was the bizzare thing -- in the ice cave the BEST armor this time was a +0 leather armor of fire resistance. In the Volcano I found artefact armor with great AC, but in exchange for only rC and rPois I got -tele. This gave was REALLY resistance barren, except for the basic rings. That said, do ...

Unrelated, but I've found precisely 4 (total) artefacts out of my last 5 runs that made it made it past lvl 15 (at least ones of any use).

This thread is a great way to make me hate my life XD.

Re: Remove Vp

I've done some vampire runs, and personally I love Vp dynamics. Satiation lvl management makes you able to adapt well to various situations. Kiku is obviously an advantage here, as you get on-demand food as well as spellbooks in Necro (which is a very strong spell-schools used properly, largely due ...

Re: The Development of a Tank

If you're out to build a character that can take a beating without slowing down, you want a deep dwarf. I recommend older versions for this, but it's still the case today that you can't beat the combination of heavy armor, good hp, and damage shaving. I've repeatedly wanted to try this, but for som...

Thanks so far for the tips! This is exactly why I've posted this...I play a lot, and know many "facts" without being experienced (been playing for "2 years" but 80% of that time I had forgotten...only got serious recently). Shard 1) -- True, the low HP is a serious malus. Several...

Re: Which axe is better?

This is circumstantial, but there are some enemies where having -Tele can actually keep you immune to annoying blink other effects, as well as being a great way to dodge teleport trap effects.

Also, like people said here, just unwield it if you need to blink/tele.

The Development of a Tank

I’ve shared the results of a couple runs (after YASDs) with GrFi of Chei builds, and have gotten a bit of advice. While I’m not posting a guide (since I have yet to make this build work), this post is a “guide to how I’m doing it.” Essentially, I’m going to give a background to how I’m creating my c...

1) I got the Broad Axe just before the war that killed me. Tbh, I hadn't changed over to axes yet because I had seen an eveningstar in Elven Halls 3...just couldn't get past the wall of Elves/summons that were in my way. 2) Spell -- tbh, I wanted to cast more, but the higher lvl ones were still JUST...

GrFi of Cheibro Tank -- thoughts and advice

Sooooo.... Managed to easily get two runes with my Cheibro tank. The game was ridiculously low on good weapons/artefacts of any kind, though, so I made the mistake of trying out Elven Halls 3. I would have been fine if it hadn't been for damnation all the time. The Abyss was astoundingly easy with t...

GaFi of Cheibro Build Advice/Thoughts

Soo, first off, new to the forums. Been playing this on and off for a while now (started back when v0.18 was the latest). My absolute best run was back on my old computer when I had it downloaded (Troll Warper of Qazlal, died in Pan). This, however, is my current best now that I've gotten back to th...
