That would deprive you of one of Gozag's benefits, that is to dazzle your enemies with the gold lying around. Let it sit for as long as possible, and then take in your stash before you move on to a new area.

I learned the hard way not to enter an Ice Cave without rC+. But since the introduction of the gauntlet (or the demise of the Labyrinth), I lost a lot of characters there.
And I'm a lot less inclined to enter a portal when I'm trying a streak. Otherwise, I embrace the risk most of the time.

Fully agree with advil - abs 0 is well balanced now. Even before going into a fight with TRJ, Cerebov or an OOF, I consider how I can get the guy within range, without interference. Well, even in the late game you are forced to waste an equipment slot for the scrolls, because there is often enough stuff that you want to try out without wasting an id scroll. But I wouldn't call that an interesting decision, as it is in the early game.

!attraction is very nice for melee Chei worshippers, who have less options to reposition themselves. But there will never be enough potions in the game, so they are forced to learn beckoning, which works just as fine and can be spammed.

Final update - you still get a message when there is a monster in view, which is probably as it should be, and probably even quite helpful, as the screen often is quite cluttered after you are done with Ramparts, and you may not notice the new foe crawling in.

I agree with Siegurt on this. I like to play demonspawn. Although it always makes me groan when I get the demonic guardian again, or the black mark, I never quit. If I had the option that Nekoatl outlines, I guess I would use it every single time, and that precisely kills the species for me.

Update: I reported this on Mantis, and learned that it is not a bug, but intended behavior for those transporter vaults that do not contain ghosts and that are not on very early levels.

What would have been different if you had not been autoexploring? It seems that the unpronouncable critter had you paralysed the moment you noticed it. Could have happened in any circumstances.

Well, unfortunately, even with Vehumet's help you cannot expect to kill everything with Absolute Zero. You need other spells to thin out the resistance, and for those -Archmagi is an impediment.

Fair enough. That's what I mean. Although "prepare to stab all monsters completely" sounds a like a very positive spin on things. The monsters you really want to stab are entirely non-hexable.

I play only octopodes and with +4 apt its still worth it. You can't finish the game but you get enough incidental value that you don't mind the XP sunk.
