Re: Let's talk felids

'Meow Luc Purrcard' makes me want Felid monsters in the game just to kill them. That is an abomination.

Kobold Artificer of Nemelex

Played these guys on a whim after resolving to try Nemelex, and they're fantastic. Not so powerful, but a lot of fun to play- everything comes down to your latest bundle of tricks. Things rarely go as planned, but there's always a new toy to throw while you caper away screaming. Both of my attempts ...

Interestingly, green Draconians do not invoke TSO's wrath by breathing noxious fumes- although you aren't allowed to take advantage of a sapient victim's confusion.

Re: YASD- An exercise in insanity

My mouse slipped during character creation and I ended up with a Troll priest of Zin. Rather than (Q)uit him, I decided to kill it by taking every downward staircase I could as soon as I found it, fighting only when something got in my way. Nine levels down and still xp level two, he ran into the mo...

Horrible Mismatches

I've noticed a fair few people are prepared to hammer Trolls into spellcasters, but there are a lot of builds that should just never ever be attempted. From the doggedly persistent mummy berserker, to the Medicine Troll- some combos are plain horrible, whether through mechanics or background. Tell m...

What he said, rF is absolutely essential here. On the bright side you do some impressive damage and you've got rMut, so you're otherwise well set. If you're still nervous, you might try to reach the bottom of the Slime Pits in the hope of some nice resistance randarts. And remember, the first four l...

Even without wands, Yiuf can hit scarily hard- it's all down to the roll of the Chaos staff. I usually try to lure him out at a distance, plinking him with any projectiles I'm carrying while he closes the gap.

I've never been able to focus Okawaru's gifts, there's usually a dozen slings and a negative cloak for every decent melee weapon. Except for my Halfling Hunter, of course.

I didn't realise just how precious and valuable potions of cure mutation were until I finally started making it to the late game on a regular basis. I was just using them to cheat at mutation roulette. Melee characters have to start training maces and flails if they haven't found a flaming edge by m...

YASD: Gods I hate blade traps.

He was doing so WELL. Draconian Paladin, carefully nursed into a terrible holy warrior that scattered the wicked before him. Sweet randart jewellery. A demon whip, raised on a steady diet of enchant weapon scrolls before its recent conversion to a scourge. Dragon armour from an early level! Aaarg. R...

Re: Abyss: "Teleport when you inevitably get surrounded"

Just lost a really promising MDFi to the Abyss myself. Level 11, with some amazing jewellery. Playing sensibly, slowly and cautiously, but an orc with a distortion hammer banished me with a single hit. Ran about screaming, drank eight (!) heal wounds, smite-d to death by a smoke demon. But I saw the...

Never hold a movement button down, travel in cautious taps. A lot of nasty foes are fast enough for Slouch to thoroughly mess them up. Like you've noticed, setting up camp and then bringing fights to you works wonders. In your early stages, don't wear more ponderous gear than you can get rewarded fo...

Re: Draconian Paladins?

Just had a YASD with a level 12- he was really starting to take shape, too. I'm sure this is doable now. Paladins- particularly lightly-armoured draconians- are pretty tough to keep alive in the early stages, Fighter start with TSO later might be the way to go. Thanks, angrykoopa. In other news, I l...

I want this to work, but they all die to relatively unimpressive odds- I feel very outgunned even after being awarded a colour, and the underhand stuff I'd normally resort to is forbidden by TOS. Also, I take it He won't be happy if I end up green and exercise my natural poison-belching abilities? A...

My latest KoBe (and my very first win!) was gifted with a really vicious crossbow in the midgame. A few skill levels later, and it was all the almighty Trog could think to give me. I ended up with about a dozen branded or artifact crossbows, none of them a patch on the first. And ammo. So much ammo....

Try a near bloodless or completely bloodless(as in rarely or never eat) vampire enchanter or necromancer sometime. No spell hunger from the get go is just nasty. Get a god that can help with healing just like a DD. I avoid vampires, didn't know what to do with their odd relationship between feeding...

Gotta love the damage shaving on Deep Dwarves, and the lack of natural healing makes for a very different experience. I used to play them as vamp-draining Necromancers, but the 0.8 heavy armour combined with their natural toughness is too good to pass on. CK's of Makhleb aren't doing splendidly well...

Re: Demonspawn Gladiator of Jiyva

I recently managed to keep a troll monk alive and godless long enough to find a Jiyva altar. The idea of steering some hideously mutated hulk around (skin bubbling and frothing while jellies seep out of the walls around him...) was very appealing, and it wasn't as if I was using all those tasty trin...
