Can confirm, that's configurable in the RC. I hate instant travel but love the footprint trail, so I set it to the best of both.

So make it an invocable god power to grant a temporary brand over top of your weapon, then. Like the Excruciating Wounds spell, with the caveat that it can be applied to any weapon (artifact or otherwise) and does not overwrite the existing brand. Or maybe it does, whatever, that's a balancing issue...

Doesn't that feel like a proper tradeoff though? In the early game (say, pre-Lair) most summoners are going to have access to spammals, imps and dogs. Maybe Ice Beast if you push it hard. That's a 1, 2, or 3 point HP drain, which is likely less damage than you would take trying to melee the enemy in...

Properly summoning a creature requires infusing some of your own lifeforce into it in order to (even temporarily) bind it to your realm. All summoning spells now also cost HP equal to their MP cost and the summon XP penalty is removed. This is affected by Deep Dwarf damage shaving a la Pain. Thoughts?

They're more accurate, for that matter. I don't have hard numbers for that, but the wiki says it (so it must be true, right?) and anecdotally, I can't ever hit a damn thing with a bow, sometimes hit things with slings, and generally have a >50% hit rate with crossbows when I have a reasonable skill ...

Crossbows hold the unique (among launchers) ability to use the same skill to use a 1H weapon or a 2H weapon. Bows are all 2H and Slings are all 1H unless you're a Small race, whereas crossbows come in both 1H and 2H varieties and use the same skill.

It applies Freeze, as though casting the spell, to anyone who hits you in melee. It'll only slow cold-blooded enemies but it'll do damage to anyone. I'd be interested to see if it is modified by your spellpower, though, or if it casts at some preset value. That I don't know.

The home page of the site lists it as " a resource for players and admirers of Linley Henzell's Dungeon Crawl", so, I'd say probably not. Also the last post on the website was in 2004, if that gives you a more accurate ballpark. I dunno when DCSS forked off from Linley's.
