Honestly I'm pretty sure lureing isn't a problem. In response to the OP this seems more like a "destroy sprigans, destroy pillars" thing than a lureing fix. Which just encorages more luring, and more stairhugging. Seems painful. Yeah, a luring fix alone wont fix much unless stairs , fast ...

It is often, though certainly not always, optimal to lure a fast monster all the way halfway across the level to a stair in order to ensure fighting in isolation, minimize risk from noise, ensure an escape route, etc... this holds true even if the monster can get a few hits in. Just a random example...

Freezing cloud is one of the best spells in the game imo. Investment is not great for an ice mage since you're already training conj/ice. Branching into air? Theyre speed 10 dude, just avoid them until you have a lot of large rocks, my last troll had like 1-2 hydras wandering each floor in lair. If you are right next to a hydra, carefully use energy randomization to escape or just tele out.

I thought this over again and I think the best solution is just make this guy some kind of demented jester who inflicts some combination of -potion, -scroll and -evoke when he hits you. Same niche (more challenging vs item reliant chars) but doesnt encourage gamey item juggling. Oh, and wand of rand...

Agree with kuniqs. Infinite xp and consumables spoils what the entirety of the game prior to extended was about - making the best of limited resources. It bothers me that some chars can abyss scum and safely acquire 30 blink scrolls if they are patient enough.

It's very rare for swarms of easily dispatched, lesser posters to cause an interesting scenario to happen even if there is an archaeo a few tiles out of LoS. Trust me, I would know.

Yeah, it sucks but we rly have no choice but remove. If his steal ability can't net him items he can use against you then it is pointless. If it remains as is it encourages tedium.

May as well squeeze one last remove into 2016.

imo:

Remove staff of energy
Make disc of storms xp gated
Make rods only charge while wielded and lose charge on unequip
Get rid of either box of beasts or sack of spiders

Should deal with some of the evocable related power creep

Meanwhile tornado is irresistible, freezing cloud/lightning bolt can kill non T1 demons in a single cast, AE's lvl 4-5 spells aren't nullified by a single level of resistance like OTR/Alistair, and oh, as an AE you actually *have* late game spells.

Why not just make a difficulty setting instead of tying difficulty into race? race should be about flavor and playstyle, or you would think so based on the stated rationale every time a race is removed.
