Actually that character has already died, almost singlehandedly lost all of its lifes to Mennas. He had teamed up with Xtahau (or however you spell that dragons name) and killed me twice on the way down then i tried to zoom past his level of the swamps, but he caught me and so I teleported... right ...

No you can Quaff Id potions whenever you want.... just make sure you have a Potion of healing before doing so.

Tanks don't dodge they Block.
However if you do manage to get a character with at least 30 Ac Ev and Shield you should name him Goku.

Yeah i ended Up sneaking over to the scroll and apparently Mara had roamed away to somewhere else.
Luckily i did not see that poopoo head again thanks to those sets of stairs close together.

Unlocking stuff is a silly gimmick implied by games in order to achieve a false sense of replay value and content.
Dungeon Crawl does not need to imply this gimmick, as it has enough content in order to provide an excellent amount of Replay.
