Blurry eyesight should take two forms. The first form is near-sightedness, you can read scrolls and books perfectly well, but your range of vision is reduced by a tile or two. The second form is far-sightedness, you can't read books and scrolls very well but you get a bonus to finding traps that are...

I don't know the system specs for dwarf fortress but DC:SS runs on a cold rock. You don't need high system specs for reading books and playing roguelikes.

D:2 centaur. I'm not sure if that is actually OOD but a D:2 centaur is as lethal as a OOD monster. I've had a D:4 orc warrior spawn because I had triggered the OOD timer.

I suggest you just try starting some characters you don't really care about and just try playing with the hjklyubn keys. That's learned to play with them. (I play on a netbook which meant I pretty much had to learn to use those keys.)

Wiglaf should do damage shaving and it should take ages to stop bleeding. (Edit: Or is that what you meant anyway?)

I have a fairly standard american accent. The one aspect of my speech that some people find odd is that I pronounce "Quebec", "Kebec". I don't consider that noteworthy as everyone pronounces Quebec that way where I live. (In northern Vermont, Quebec for all practical purposes.)

Actually British English is the only language I'm allowed to select. It seems to be the standard for the forum. Plus DC:SS uses British English.
