Heh, Xom.

It's fun going with a build with Fulsome Distillation, Xom likes it when you cause nasty effects on monsters/and or yourself(more so on dangerous situations). Make Xom happy by evaporating potions at your own face.

If you don't have evaporate, you can always quaff the bad potions. :D

I'd go Vehumet first to get all the attack/summon spells I need, then switch after I can take Abyss(and demons) with ease. Vehu straight up powers your damage and summoning spells, extends range and lessens mana cost. Kiku is for players going with the Necromancy path or those rushing Necromutation....

That's the deadly difference between Abyss and Pan really; if too many critters spawn in Abyss that you can't control, you just teleport again and again to recreate the entire map and remove all hostiles. Pandemonium on the other hand, is scary if you get swarmed, if there's portal out you can leave...

If there was an exit in that particular level; otherwise I hate leaving unfinished Pan levels whereas Abyss is a guilt-free pleasure where you won't ever lose a rune of Zot due to dangerous situations. I think the Abyss rune respawns.

Smite and hellfire seems to be invoked abilities so you can't stop them with anti-magic or silence? Damn.
Does it also apply to torment? Hmp, but for that at least we can go necromutation.

The nastiest sources of damage seem to be unavoidable and unblockable.

I found out that Crawl wants my new character dead after meeting an Orc warrior at D2.

I retreated back one step after we see each other, then the crude Beoghite throws a spear and instantly kills my level 2 Vamp.

An Ettin is a specially nasty version of giant. In one turn, they can hit for damage reaching 100 points more or less... with their double Giant Spiked Clubs™. Get Summon Elemental spell or Stone of Earth Elementals voila! You have beefy meaty walking bombs of STONE!
